OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMMEThe Office of the Director-General supports the Director-General in providing global direction to the work of the Organization within the overall framework of WHO’s Constitution, so as to maximize Organization-wide contribution to the work of Member States in achieving significant gains in health status.Description Of DutiesUnder the supervision of the Senior Speechwriter, the incumbent will research, write and edit speeches, video messages, talking points, forewords, editorials and other materials, to position the Director-General and the Organization as an authoritative and trusted voice on global health.This Includes
  • Liaising with technical units at headquarters and, when necessary, in regional and country offices, to gather information and ensure the technical accuracy of materials produced for the Director-General.
  • Researching events to which the Director-General is invited to speak, to ensure materials produced are appropriate and relevant for the audience.
  • Writing drafts that are clear, compelling, technically accurate, politically sensitive and stylistically consistent with the Director-General’s voice.
  • Providing advice on messaging and tone.
  • Attending meetings as needed to discuss upcoming speeches.
  • Performing all other related duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsEducationEssential
  • An advanced level university degree in communications, journalism, public health or political science or international relations, or related field relevant to the position.
EssentialExperience
  • At least 7 years’ progressive experience working in communications or a communications-related field, including, demonstrated experience in writing speeches and other written materials for high-profile leaders;
  • Experience working in public health or international development;
  • Demonstrated experience at the international level.

REMUNERATIONWHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 75,602 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4952 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.Additional Information
