About the role


This role is a phenomenal opportunity for you to work on hands-on projects with a tangible business impact. It is an outstanding, board and exciting professional growth opportunity and a stepping stone within the company with an exposure to management and other teams across the Group.


As such, you will shape key strategic projects and drive our company´s thought leadership, particularly around the topic of insurance and resilience. You should expect a dynamic environment and should be able to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and autonomy in your work.


Key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Analyse global insurance market trends (with a focus on the European insurance markets) and provide related analysis and forecasts.
  • Follow external insurance analysts
  • Support Swiss Re’s thought-leadership topics and client outreach by co-authoring publications on a major market or industry segment in publication (e.g. Swiss Re’s sigma, Expertise Publications, Economic Insights, etc) and preparing high-quality and visually appealing presentations.
  • Most activities involve collaboration across teams. You are expected to support a workflow of projects from Swiss Re’s business divisions. This entails networking and communicating SRI’s services to various company partners.
  • These projects may be related to quantifying and modelling the impact of economic risks (e.g. inflation, energy prices, health care reform). Strong data affinity and statistical analysis skills are essential, hands-on experience with a statistical software package and/or a programming language an advantage
  • Support Group Chief Economist and Head of Insurance Market Analysis in various tasks (e.g. writing background notes, designing slides, some administrative tasks etc)

About the team


Group Economic Research and Strategy (GERS) is part of the Swiss Re Institute, and is responsible for analysing and forecasting the global macroeconomic and insurance market environment. GERS holds a crucial role in steering Swiss Re’s capital allocation for both sides of the balance sheet. The team also drives thought leadership on topics of strategic importance for the Group and helps shaping the policy dialogue and outcome. GERS is responsible for Swiss Re’s flagship sigma publication series.


GERS is highly visible and interacts with a wide variety of key partners and decision makers across the organization and externally. We are a truly international team located in Zurich, New York, Hong Kong, Bangalore and Beijing and collaborate closely with all of the company´s re/insurance business units and Group functions.

About You


Essential:

  • Master’s/degree in economics with at least 3-5 years of analytical work experience
  • Experience and/or coursework related to the insurance industry is a strong plus, but not required.
  • Experience and strong interest in macroeconomic, insurance analysis and forecasting.
  • Independent and able to operate with minimal level of guidance, while collaborating with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Great teammate, comfortable working with colleagues across all different levels.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically and deliver high quality results.
  • Ability to break down, communicate and visualize often complex concepts in an easy and digestible way. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; other languages a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Internationally focused and highly motivated with a can-do attitude; dedication to continuous learning and willingness to challenge and improve the status quo
  • Very agile, forward-thinking and curious personality with ability to work under tight timelines
  • Mature and proactive; showing a high degree of own initiative
  • Ability and passion to work in a global and multicultural environment Strong interest in/motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance

Nice to have:

  • Econometric and programming skills in one of the major statistical softwares/programming languages such as R, Stata, Matlab, Python, EViews is an advantage
