Together, TMo creates novel molecules to become tomorrow’s transformative medicines, pushing the boundaries of science and expanding druggable target space. We exploit the full breadth, depth and diversity of our modality range and technology platforms, both established and emerging, to tackle challenging targets and create new therapeutic options for patients.Role MissionWe are offering an outstanding opportunity for a senior drug discovery leader to shape the future of drug discovery research at pRED with passion, scientific excellence and inclusivity. The role is Basel-based, with a strong focus on Small Molecule Research. We believe that investments in lead discovery are a competitive advantage for Roche. We can enable programs with difficult-to-drug targets, we can discover new targets through phenotypic screening, and we can shorten optimization timelines by finding high quality leads. The impact of Lead Discovery can be enormous across the value chain, so this position is central to our future.Your Impact

• You are a member of the SMR Leadership Team and accountable within the context of this team to shape the strategy for small molecule future directions, resource prioritization across therapeutic areas, and in particular, influencing the new programs that enter the SM portfolio. This requires intensive collaboration not only in the Small Molecule department, but also with all our disease area partners.
• You lead a highly scientifically diverse department, including skill sets in assay development (biochemical and cellular), cell engineering, protein science, structural biology (including newly established CryoEM facility), extensive automation, and chemical and cellular repositories. You are accountable for the development of technical excellence in Lead Discovery, adapting capabilities continually to fit to the organization’s needs, aiming for versatility and a high degree of connectivity within pRED in a highly dynamic environment. You act as a strategic planner for major initiatives within Lead Discovery and beyond
• You strike the right balance between empowering people and influencing a quality decision.
• You embrace a balance between maintaining a world-class internal organization with the critical external networks we establish to maintain our competitiveness in horizontal innovation, key technologies, and services. You act as an advisor and reviewer for accessing external innovation, you help shape and co-lead strategic partnerships
• You interface with all disease area stakeholders. You account for the conditions that promote quality discussions around the early portfolio decisions. Your ProfileYou are a drug discovery leader with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Ideally, you have an advanced degree in biology, chemistry or a related life sciences field. You have a proven track record of driving scientific innovation and of leading drug discovery teams. You have highly developed analytical and strategic thinking capabilities and a passion for problem solving. You thrive in an environment that allows you to collaborate and take initiative. You continually expand your expertise, and you are comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity. You are a team-player and dedicated to establishing a culture of mutual support, continuous learning and self-organization.
