Scientific and medical publishing is a vital part of the Philip Morris International (PMI) Life Sciences Strategy and one of the most critical elements in establishing PMI as a leader in science and innovation.

As a Manager Publication Strategy & Management you will enhance value of PMIs Life Sciences Products, Services, and scientific output by defining, creating, and ensuring execution of a publication strategy for Life Sciences that is integrated with PMI Strategic priorities as well as Communications, External Affairs, Fiscal and Consumer priorities as needed.

More specifically, you will
  • Lead the development of strategic and tactical publication plans in alignment with company policy and business requirements and priorities in a project-based organization to support PMI’s evolution within the scientific community
  • Remove barriers to publishing by building relationships with publishers and editors-in-chief of international peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed publications
  • Supervise scientific publication steering committees to support optimal decision-making for publication plans and timelines for different projects
  • Lead publication activities throughout the product lifecycle, including submission and successful publication of manuscripts, congress abstracts, posters, slide sets, with the goal of timely completion of high-quality, peer-reviewed publications
  • Facilitate dissemination of PMI scientific publications on internal and external communications platforms to foster and sustain PMI’s innovative culture and inform internally/externally regarding new achievements, insights, and developments
  • Ownership of a database of third-party scientific literature on smoke-free products, developed and maintained by the Publishing team, as well as of market-specific publishing strategies led and driven by the Publishing team
  • Maintain knowledge of international requirements and guidance associated with scientific publications and ensure these standards are applied in development and implementation of PMI policies and practices regarding scientific publications and other public disclosures
  • Advise PMI’s central functions and markets on content strategy, positioning research, and forming partnerships with field- or organization-specific communication channels to increase PMI’s reach with special-interest groups, as well as PMI Life Sciences and senior leadership on publishing challenges, opportunities, methodologies, and lessons learned to inform strategic discussions and initiatives. Support, guide, and train junior staff.
Who we’re looking for
  • PhD in Life sciences or a Biomedical MSc degree. CMPP certification desired.
  • Substantial experience in publication planning or equivalent in a scientific/medical publishing company, medical communications agency, or pharmaceutical company
  • Knowledge of pertinent external standards related to industry publications and current good publication practices (GPP3, ICMJE, CONSORT, etc.). Sound experience with publication management solutions such as Datavision and Pubstrat
  • Excellent command of the English language and outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and present complex medical and scientific data. Ability to learn rapidly and apply knowledge in previously unfamiliar scientific areas
  • Demonstrated capabilities and expertise with resource allocation/vendor management. Team player with a learning mindset that thrives on providing and receiving feedback. Strategic, critical thinking in addition to strong analytical skills. Flexibility and demonstrated ability to lead several projects simultaneously.
