Job Description

The Lead Data Scientist for Digital Biomarkers in Digital Biomarkers Data Science will advance precision and personalized medicine through the development and validation of transformative digital measures and algorithms using biometric monitoring technologies (BioMeTs) for people living with MS, neuromuscular diseases (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS] and spinal muscular atrophy [SMA]), Parkinson’s disease (PD) and/or Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).

As a Lead Data Scientist in the Digital Biomarkers Data Science team within BDH Sciences, you will:
  • Design digital outcome measurement development strategies quantifying human behavior and function, including technical verification, analytical and clinical validation together with BDH Science, Medical, and Measurement Solutions
  • Lead the development of end-to-end signal processing pipelines, feature engineering and disease and behavioral models for potential biomarkers/endpoints from sensor-based BioMeT data, including clinical studies using Konectom™, a BDH smartphone-based digital outcome assessment of cognitive and motor functions
  • Lead the analyses and the communication of results, including at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications for audiences in the therapeutic area of interest, sensor science, machine learning and digital medicine
  • Form and foster Biogen internal and external aliances to advance the field of digital outcome measurements acceptance
This role is of key importance to achieve the strategic vision and objective to make Biogen a recognized leader in digital health neuroscience, hence contributing to our corporate vision & strategy – this role will report to the Head of Digital Biomarkers Data Science.

Qualifications
  • PhD in biomechanical engineer, data science, bioinformatics, computer science, or applied mathematics
  • >= 10 years Pharma/Biotech/Tech industry experience, alternatively extensive leadership experience in academic/clinical centers of excellence
  • Thought leadership in the field of sensor-based signal processing and disease modelling leveraging state of the art methodologies, programming languages, and tools for the development of digital outcome measures
  • Experience initiating and leading complex, interdisciplinary research, and development projects, especially in the fields of software and technology implementation in support of clinical studies
  • Track-record of scientific publications in the field of digital measurements of function and human behavior

  • Expert knowledge in data science and data engineering programming using python and higher-level libraries such as numpy, pandas, scipy, statsmodels, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, matplotlib, Plotly, or similar
  • Experienced in converting technical information to compelling business context and advice, communicating it with technology and business teams
  • Strong work ethic with the drive and willingness to go the extra mile
