UpLink is a digital platform hosted by the World Economic Forum to crowdsource innovations which can accelerate the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The platform’s core objective is to source and scale the best innovations by connecting entrepreneurs, investors and experts with the networks and resources they need to grow and make a global impact. Heading into its third year of operations, UpLink has an established user-base of more than 40,000 registered members, has launched 30 innovation challenges with nearly 3,500 solutions submitted to the platform.
Why we are recruiting
Now, with its own social media presence, fresh brand identity and a close working relationship with the Forum’s core digital channels, the UpLink team is looking for a communications expert to take the platform’s storytelling and marketing activities to the next level.To achieve this, we are looking to integrate an experience communications and marketing leader to join UpLink and Public Engagement’s leadership team in Geneva. You will join UpLink’s dynamic team of digital, content and marketing colleagues leading the overarching digital marketing and storytelling pillar of UpLink’s work. The role is embedded within the Forum’s Digital team, which is responsible for the Forum’s 5 million monthly website visitors, 25 million social network followers, and a billion social video views a year. You will be expected to contribute a steady stream of ideas to this group and play a full role in its wider ambitions. Reporting Lines & Interactions This role reports to the Forum’s Head of Digital and Marketing, with a dotted-line to the Head of UpLink, and works closely with the blog, social video, social media,marketing, studio and UpLink teams. Main responsibilities •Develop a strategy for the next phase of UpLink’s growth that brings together digital content, social media, marketing, live broadcasts, brand development and external media. •Ensure editorial excellence across on-platform, all UpLink digital content (blogs, videos, social media, marketing materials and other content) and oversee the expansion of the platform’s output to include longer-form video, podcasts and other rich forms of storytelling.
•Further improve the operational excellence across the digital, editorial and marketing workstreams. •Implement a comprehensive marketing strategy that expands UpLink’s reach and brings specific demographics (investors, corporates, experts, academics, etc.) to the platform and opens up a pipeline of potential new partners.This strategy will ideally result in substantive increases in visitors, monthly active users, engagement and high-quality submissions through the platform. •As well as expanding UpLink’s reach through ‘owned’ media assets (blogs, video, etc), the successful candidate will develop and implement a strategy for ‘earned’ media in external publications that showcase UpLink Challenges and its community of innovators. •Working alongside the existing UpLink leadership team to enhance UpLink’s value offering to its entrepreneurs and partners, including ensuring maximum visibility across internal and external digital media. •Work closely with the Technology and Digital Innovation team to deepen and leverage data and analytics tools and workstream to enhance the digital, marketing and media strategies with UpLink and with cross product user flows. •Provide management oversight, support and accountability for colleagues reporting in to the digital and marketing workstream.
The successful candidate will be assessed on
  • Strong Integration across the marketing, communication and promotion strategies and efficient alignment UpLink’s curation team, working closely with the Head of Curation.
•Effective internal collaboration across the Forum’s Public Engagement team unlocking opportunities for UpLink as well as the Forum’s broader digital and marketing objectives •Increasing UpLink’s global visibility by developing, for example, an engagement strategy at key international events linked to UpLink’s mission.
  • The above-mentioned key objectives Preferred Requirements and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a field relevant to media, communications, journalism or marketing.
•10-15 years of experience designing and implementing comprehensive and streamlined communications and marketing strategies for leading companies, organizations or media. •Proven experience of managing teams of media, communications and marketing professionals.
