Abbott Established Pharma Division (EPD) is looking for an

Legal Director– Established Pharmaceuticals Licensing & Acquisitions

to be based in Allschwil- Basel, Switzerland

In this role you provide commercial legal support and strategic advice for Abbott’s Established Pharmaceuticals Division (“EPD”), including drafting of commercial agreements, with a particular focus on licensing and acquisition, and assisting in the handling of commercial legal affairs for EPD.

Your Tasks
  • Commercial attorney with global responsibility for strategically important licensing and acquisition initiatives for the EPD division, including interfacing with global stakeholders and negotiating and drafting product acquisition, licensing, supply, manufacturing and other commercial agreements.
  • The candidate should be able to anticipate, identify, and manage risk effectively to assist in resolution of a variety of issues relating to pharmaceutical licensing and acquisition and supply, including pharmaceutical development, alliance management, commercial issues and pharmacovigilance.
  • Demonstrates expertise in substantive area and excellent judgment in developing and recommending practical, innovative solutions to mitigate risk and resolve matters in a way that supports the desired business outcomes.
  • Participate and provide licensing and acquisition legal expertise/feedback to the EPD Licensing and Acquisitions leadership team and various other EPD forums (e.g. Product Flow Council, etc).
  • Advises business partners and uses strong influencing skills to gain the commitment and support of different stakeholders to drive desired outcomes.
  • Advises legal department management of critical project developments and issues in a timely manner.
  • May initiate or lead cross-functional or cross-divisional projects.
  • Prepare and provide training and education to business and legal department colleagues.
  • Fosters strong working relationships with internal clients and provides sound, practical, and responsive support.
  • Has a proven ability to identify and prioritize on strategic matters with the highest impact.
  • Understands that as a true business partner legal provides support that matters.
Your Background / Education
  • Law degree and 10+ years of relevant legal experience in a comparable position (majority within the pharmaceutical industry or inhouse working for a law firm consulting pharma companies)
  • Possess pharmaceutical industry knowledge, including licensing, acquisitions, alliance management, supply, manufacturing and pharmaceutical research and development.
  • Must have recent prior transactional experience with significant client contact and responsibility at various levels.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and articulate recommendations and options clearly and concisely to a variety of business partners.
  • Ability to draft concise and effective contractual documents and manage a large volume and variety of agreements (from simple amendments to complex agreements).
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team on complex projects.
  • Ability to interface with outside counsel, vendors, and colleagues of all levels across a range of functions and with different cultural backgrounds.
