Expedia is looking for a Machine Learning Scientist/Practitioner to join the core data science team that powers marketplaces and yield for Expedia Group. Our mission spans many areas that are core to our business, including search and sort, typeahead and geography. Your work will affect millions of our customers and will have a direct impact on our business results.

This position will anchor the core data science team that builds algorithms for sort and ML representations of EG items (hotels, VRs, etc.). This is an applied research role – your models will be deployed to our production systems and your results will be measured objectively via A|B testing.

Expedia has deep and rich data sets, many still untapped, and your passion for the craft of statistics and machine learning has the power to unlock tangible growth for our business. We are looking for someone with hands on experience building machine learning models, either in an academic or industrial setting. You should have a PhD in computer science. The ideal candidate will have experience in online multistakeholder recommendation, deep learning, convolutional neural and/or adverserial neural network models.

What You Will Do
  • Understand the business problem, identify the key challenges, formulate the machine learning problem and provide/prototype solutions
  • Be able to debug and correct your data assumption through AB testing
  • Document the technical details of your work
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with other team members
  • Collaborate extensively with stakeholders, program management, and software development team members to ensure that solutions meet business needs, permit valid inferences, and have functional feasibility.
Required Skills
  • PhD in computer science with background both machine learning (PhD preferred) and software development is needed
  • Hands on experience building machine learning models is required
  • Strong algorithm design and programming skills in C++ and Spark, and scripting languages using Python is required
  • Experience with distributed computing Spark is required
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning technologies is needed
  • Proven experience of solving interesting and meaningful real-world problems using principled techniques and practices is required
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience of working with live data (data cleaning, data visualization and modeling) is required
  • Minimum of 5 year’s experience in Machine Learning is required
