Manager, Accounting and VAT, Europe

Summary

This role covers accounting responsibilities for several entities in different countries in Europe. He/she will manage General Ledger and Controlling activities for these entities to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, internal control policies and external audits.

The Accounting Manager will oversee VAT activities for Europe and payroll for the Swiss entities. Both VAT compliance reporting for Europe and payroll for Switzerland are outsourced and this position will manage these activities performed by external consultants.

Duties And Responsibilities

Manage the monthly financial close process for several European entities.

Review accounting transactions and preparation of some accounting entries.

Execute monthly GL payroll accounting

Responsible for account reconciliation and analysis.

Ensure compliance with internal control policies and SOX environment.

Responsible for managing statutory reporting and audits and maintain good relationship with external auditors.

Ensure accuracy of all VAT related returns and dealing with queries from tax authorities on a regular basis.

Provide VAT advice to the business and work with other departments on VAT issues that arise to provide solutions in line with fiscal compliance.

Manage external consultant who is managing all VAT compliance reporting activities.

Oversee monthly payroll processes for all Swiss entities performed by external service provider.

Assist with implementation of new ERP system

Continuous process improvement.

Assist with ad hoc projects.

Contribute positively to a strong culture of business integrity and ethics.

Requirements

University graduate or business qualification equivalent (eg CFC Employé de Commerce)

At least 7 years of accounting experience in a multi-national corporation

Experience in Big 4 is a plus

A proven ability to identify and manage VAT

In-depth VAT technical knowledge with experience evaluating and advising business initiatives and business proposals

Quick learner, open to change, solution focused, collaborative, and driven

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Problem solving skills, detailed oriented and data analysis

Flexibility, adaptability and self-motivation

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

Fluent in English (other European language an advantage)

Proficient with Microsoft Excel and ERP system (Oracle and SAP experience is a plus)
