Background

Supporting the chemical manufacturing activities, the Manager, Chemical Manufacturing Operations provides support to the manufacturing leader and team ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and environmental protection are adhered to. He is supporting the manufacturing leadership to generate quality and cost-effective Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) through the effective utilization of resources to meet production schedules in accordance with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) practices, while taking into consideration the company’s commitment to our Core Values and Behaviors in the planning and implementation of all actions related to the area of responsibility.

The Manager, Chemical Manufacturing Operations works in close collaboration and alignment with the manufacturing team and the department heads (e.g. Technical Services, Supply Management, EHS) based at Zofingen.

This position reports direct into the manufacturing leader, the Senior Manager, Chemical Manufacturing Operations.

Requirements
  • MSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Life Sciences or equivalent degree
  • 3+ years of experience in API manufacturing industry.
  • Working knowledge of GMP, Eudralex, PICS and GAMP regulatory requirements and in the preparation of regulatory authority audits (FDA, Swissmedic, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of swiss health, safety and environment (ATEX, EKAS, SUVA, etc.) regulatory requirements.
  • Growing mindset, ability to organize and multitask, high degree of self-reliability and aptitude to work on the shopfloor
  • Proactive communicator with a problem-solving attitude. Strong identification with BMS values.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Fluent in German and English
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supports the chemical manufacturing department (working on a 24h/ 5day schedule) and the manufacturing leadership. Communicate pro-actively and consistently to meet manufacturing objectives in compliance with GMP and EOHSS
  • Support of process definition and lifecycle management and of the creation of documentation related to the chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Support of Manufacturing Operations topics during Health Authorities, corporate EOHSS, and other corporate audits or inspections.
  • Support of team training and coaching on processes, hazards, etc.
  • Investigate deviations related to process, equipment, safety and product quality
  • Implement CAPAs and initiates Change Request related to manufacturing processes
  • Promote safe practices and behaviors on the shopfloor, verify that EOHSS rules and guidelines are implemented (e.g. reporting of unsafe conditions, incident investigations)
  • Support implementation of actions and improvements within the Chemical Manufacturing Operations department (GMP, EOHSS, business continuity, etc.)
  • Moderate, participate and review risk assessment based on state-of-the-art methodology (e.g. FMEA, PHA, HAZOP, etc.)
  • Support of troubleshooting and maintenance of the facility in close collaboration with Technical Service department to maintain safe and GMP-compliant conditions.
  • Act as SME in cross-functional and corporate projects and initiatives (e.g.: EOHSS initiatives, Leanovation, Technical Transfer projects, capital investments) by representing the manufacturing department. Propose investment-, improvement- and evolution-projects.
