Job Description

We are looking to hire an experienced Middle Distillate Desk Analyst to join our Market Research Team based in Geneva to work in close cooperation with our trading desk.
The Market Analysis team collects, interprets, and transmits in real time relevant information and analysis to inform the trading desks, the research team, and the broader Trading & Shipping division of market and fundamental developments of interest.

What you will do:
Under the supervision of the Global coordinator of products analysis in Geneva: conduct the activities listed below:
  • In cooperation with the jet and gasoil analysts, assist in the production of distillates balances (supply/demand/trade): update data in the relevant files used in the production of gasoil and jet balances forecasts by country / region in cooperation with the gasoil and jet analysts. This involves making use of extensive data resources from consultants, international / government agencies, specialized data vendors and internally generated data.
  • Maintain / develop data visualisation dashboards: Maintain existing data visualisation dashboards (Power BI) and develop new dashboards with the evolving needs of the trading desk and the broader research group.
  • Disseminate Desk Analysis: through dedicated Microsoft TEAMs forums and email alerts, disseminate distillate market analysis and commentary, view changes and relevant news for trading desks to act with agility and react in timely manner to changes in market conditions.
  • Assist the jet fuel and gasoil analyst in respond to ad-hoc requests: respond to ad-hoc informational requests from the trading desks, management, and the market analysis team.

Context and environment:
  • Working to tight deadlines: Promptly and precisely assist in the production of distillate balances to allow for rapid dissemination to the trading desks and the research group.
  • Reactivity: In a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment, there is an imperative to react quickly and be proactive in responding to informational demands from the derivative trading desks
  • Meetings: Participate in weekly meetings with the trading desk and the broader research group.
  • Network development: engage in dialogue with data suppliers, consultants, and industry counterparts

Candidate profile

  • You hold a Master’s Degree in economics/finance/statistics/econometrics or a related engineering degree.
  • You have minimum a 2-years’ experience in producing distillate oil balances analysis with good knowledge of the market dynamics of jet/ kerosene or gasoil / diesel.
  • Languages: very strong fluency in English (oral and written) is a must, French is optional.
  • Ability to work autonomously and engage in self-development and training.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills to process large amounts of information and data
  • Strong drafting, communication and presentational skills with an emphasis on synthesis and succinctness.
  • Market data: proficiency in either Bloomberg or Reuters Eikon terminal.
  • IT: strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite
  • Data visualisation: knowledge of Power BI or other similar tools such as Tableau
  • Programming: knowledge of VBA is essential, Python SQL is an advantage
