About This Role

Gartner is looking for a Splunk Engineer - Log & Analytics to perform strategic operation of our log analysis framework, advance our capabilities, reduce MTTR, and increase our ability to deliver value and enable data driven decisions at business velocity. This position can sit in any of our US-based offices with flexible work arrangements, including virtual first work-life integration.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and operate the infrastructure, processes, and automation that enables observability of critical assets across the organization in alignment with business priorities.
  • Enable the organization to be data driven, agile, and proactive through:
    • Collection and analysis of logs, metrics, and traces from a wide range of applications, networks, systems, and other sources.
    • Deriving valuable insights from data through the creation of reports and visualizations that are interactive and clear.
  • Innovate and strengthen the team by staying up to date with emerging technology and techniques. Implement and report on pilots/POCs using emerging technology and techniques.
  • Develop, document and/or refine processes to standardize and automate wherever possible.
  • Apply observability practices to the log and analysis infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and availability to the organization.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand systems, integrate with them, and develop SOPs for supporting them.
  • Apply debugging and troubleshooting skills to determine the root causes of issues in our systems and resolve them.
  • Submit quality contributions to various code and knowledge bases and review the contributions of others.
  • Participate in team practices such as: planning, standups, retrospectives, peer review, working sessions, and more.
What You’ll Need

Technically (nice to have)
  • Deep knowledge on installing, configuring, and maintaining log analysis tools: Splunk, ELK, Humio, Athena, Greylog, Fluentd, etc.
  • Familiarity with other monitoring tools such as: Datadog, Dynatrace, Catchpoint, Extrahop, Solarwinds, etc.
  • Skilled in data processing and visualization:
    • SPL, SQL, Regex
    • Big Data tools: AWS EMR, Hadoop, etc.
    • HTML, CSS, Javascript
    • Experience using *AI/ML
    • Scripting: Python, Javascript, Bash, Powershell
    • Familiar with automation, DevOps, CI/CD, & IaC tools and practices: Terraform, Jenkins, Git, Ansible, Integrating with APIs
    • A fundamental understanding of developing and working in the cloud and with serverless and containerized technologies: AWS, Azure, S3, Lambda, Docker, Kubernetes
    • Comfortable in Linux and Windows administration and common OS troubleshooting utilities
    • Working understanding of good software, network, and systems design is preferred
    Qualifications: (must have)
    • Education - Bachelor of Science or Engineering (or equivalent work experience)
    • Experience - 3-5 years of Splunk experience with some systems knowledge
