Operations Manager

Your mission :
EPFL is looking for an Operation Manager to organize and lead the contribution of Switzerland to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Observatory Project.
The SKA project is an international effort to build the world’s largest radio telescope and will be one the of the most important physics machines in the 21st century (the construction has just been approved by SKAO).
In this mission, you will report to the Director of Laboratory of Astrophysics and you will manage the local team, with a mix of engineers, researchers and PhD students.

Main duties and responsibilities include :
Implement the Swiss participation roadmap to the SKA Observatory (SKAO). In this context, you will interact with industries and other universities in Switzerland, with State Secretary for Education Research and Innovation (SERI), as well as with the larger network of people, institutes and industries involved in the SKAO abroad.
  • Build partnerships with industries, EPFL’s and other external laboratories, to extract competencies and find synergies with SKAO needs. Promote the opportunities for consortium creation, proposal writing and leading of SKAO related projects.
  • Responsible for the visibility of the SKAO project in Switzerland
  • Organize and facilitate the meeting of the Swiss SKA Board, implement actions.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective planning, day-to-day operations, and management of the project. Monitor the budget, and resources of the Swiss SKA participation.
  • Deliver annual activity report and assessment of results against the strategic roadmap.

Your profile :
You are a confirmed team leader; you know how to inspire people and build trust.
You are enthusiastic about long term international research projects and have experiences in such environment.
You have a PhD Degree or equivalent with a research background, or you have strong experience in project management and have good knowledge of the academic world.

You have demonstrated capacity in business and partnership developments as well as complex project management.
You have experience in raising funding from various sources to grow a project and in proposal writing.
You have experience dealing with industrial customers, government bodies and universities.
You are fluent in English, and have a good knowledge of French and German.
