About the Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP)

GAHP is a collaborative body made up of more than 65 members and dozens of observers that advocates for resources and solutions to pollution problems. GAHP was formed because international and national level actors/ agencies recognize that a collaborative, multi-stakeholder, multi-sectoral approach is necessary and critical to deal with the global pollution crisis and resulting health and economic impacts. GAHP’s overall goal is to reduce death and illness caused by all forms of toxic pollution, including air, water, and soil pollution, especially in low and middle-income countries. These efforts will contribute to achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals related to pollution, particularly on Health (Targets 3.4 and 3.9).

Position Overview

GAHP is seeking a qualified, motivated and detail-oriented, full-time Outreach Coordinator to help manage, strengthen and grow GAHP’s ability to serve its members and observers, and achieve its goals.

The Outreach Coordinator will report to the Executive Director. The Outreach Coordinator will assume two major roles, a) day-to-day administration of the Alliance itself, including outreach and engagement with the Board, Board Committees (especially Board Membership Committee), the Council, and b) implementation of GAHP advocacy efforts in collaboration with the GAHP team.

As the principle liaison with the GAHP Council, the Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for rolling out GAHP advocacy campaigns, communicating regularly with GAHP Council members and observers, and growing and strengthening the participation of GAHP members and observers in GAHP activities and campaigns. More specifically, the Outreach Coordinator will work to:

- Increase participation in and contribution to GAHP Board, Council annual activities, campaigns and project proposals

- Ensure their voices are strengthened and heard both at GAHP and internationally, and that their needs are conveyed to GAHP leadership and donors with a particular emphasis on members and observers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

- Support Members/Observers especially LMIC government and NGOs to take a national leadership role on pollution mitigation and prevention

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work independently as well as in a team, will be an excellent speaker, communicator and writer, detail oriented, organized and have a proven track record of delivering work products on-time. Logical thinking, comfort in a public-facing role, and the ability to contribute ideas are also key.

The ideal candidate will have connections within international Geneva community, particularly health and environment networks, as well as a keen interest in or knowledge in environmental, health, pollution and/or international development issues. Fluency in English and French (C1 level) are required. Fluency in Spanish and any other languages are an advantage.

Specific Responsibilities

Outreach and Coordination (75%)

  • Contribute to design, development, and execution of targeted advocacy campaigns around key GAHP initiatives, events and programs;
  • Conduct regular outreach to GAHP Council members and observers on GAHP activities and advocacy campaigns;
  • Ensure that information about GAHP programs and services are shared regularly with GAHP Council members, observers and larger network;
  • Ensure that priorities and feedback from Council members are included in GAHP strategies, programs, and messaging;
  • Respond to GAHP member and observer inquiries.
  • Work with GAHP Communications team to contribute to design and development of social media strategy for improved Council engagement and activation.
  • Contribute to strengthening mutual awareness and collaboration with health and environment organizations in Geneva and internationally, including UN Environment, World Health Organization, Permanent missions to the UN.
  • Assist GAHP team to track international fora and events relevant to GAHP advocacy efforts and represent GAHP when necessary;
  • Assist to identify opportunities for program development, joint panels/presentations and proposal applications with GAHP Council and GAHP network and support their development as relevant.

Administrative (25%)

  • Assist Executive Director to organize Board, Council and Committee meetings and logistics and prepare meeting materials and minutes;
  • Manage membership contribution program;

· Solicit and review GAHP Council applications, and conduct applicant due diligence;

  • Manage review and submission and membership applications to Membership Committee;
  • Track Council membership;

· Maintain GAHP Council and Board lists and contacts and oversee the administration of the GAHP contacts database (Salesforce);

  • Contribute content to GAHP newsletter updates, Annual Reports and relevant content for grant reporting.

Additional tasks as relevant. Occasional late nights and travel may be required.

Qualifications:

· At least three years of relevant experience working in an outreach or communications role, familiarity with non-profit environment a plus;

· Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field (e.g. communications, journalism, public relations, international development/relations, public health, environmental science or related field); Master’s Degree a plus;

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

· Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools;

· Proven networking, presentation and communications experience;

· Content writing experience;

· Strategic and creative mindset;

· Must possess a high level of attention to detail and the ability to see projects through to completion, on-time;

· Self-starter and motivated. Must be able to work with directives and minimal supervision;

· Sense of humor and a positive attitude;

· Ability to work under pressure;

· Fluency in English and French required (C1 level). Other languages are a plus;

· Experience/knowledge in pollution, environmental, public health and/or international development issues desirable.

Salary commensurate with experience.

OFFICE CONDITIONS

Applicant must be able to work from home or other location, with regular travel to Geneva for in-person meetings. GAHP currently does not maintain a permanent physical office space in Geneva, and instead expects to make arrangements for shared office / meeting space in 2022.
