About the role & team


We are a highly dynamic and diverse team, and we find collaboration, transparency and agility very important. Sharing these values is a key selection criteria. Our team is spread across the world, your role will be based in Zurich. We advise on major underwriting decisions and further their implementation in costing new business. We assist the deployment of the company ’s capital to the most promising underwriting risk pools. There is close collaboration with colleagues from underwriting, finance and risk management functions. Further responsibilities are:

  • Performance of underwriting projects with strategic implications for Swiss Re
  • Advancement of our company´s thought leadership

You would be the part of our Costing Methods and Analytical Services (CMAS) team within Swiss Re Institute’s Portfolio Underwriting unit. With a team of data engineers, data scientist and actuaries, you will collaborate to scale the extraction of insurance policy information to build an unified data asset. This will support Swiss Re in making data-driven decisions. You will also work on specific use cases in collaboration with several other departments and promote the data asset as well as new data products. The CMAS team performs many of the analytical tasks on a state-of-the-art data platform.

About you


  • Final year Bachelor student, Master student or graduate with a quantitative background
  • Enjoy working with and preparing data from different sources
  • Experienced Python user as demonstrated in multiple projects
  • Experience with relational databases (SQL), data modeling and hands-on experience with Apache Spark are a plus
  • Continuous thrive for improvement and high level of integrity
  • You enjoy working independently and learning new technologies
  • And most importantly, you are a people person that loves collaborating with others to find excellent solutions to hard problems
