Structured as a matrix organization of six geographical regions and ten platforms, Louis Dreyfus Company is active in over 100 countries and employs approximately 15,000 people globally.MainResponsibilitiesAlong with the below listed responsibilities, the employee should conduct any other business related to the function as required by her or his supervisor.LDC is looking for a data scientist to join a growing team in charge of developing a vessel tracking ecosystem composed of multiple data sources, proprietary tracking and forecasting models and dashboards that are used by commercial team to take trading decisions on daily basis. You will closely collaborate with the Freight platform’s data scientists and fundamental analysts, supporting the trading activities with high quality information, making sure the right data is consistently available at the right time, implementing data and analytics best practices. You strive for excellence in the technological setup and propose innovative ways to solve complex problems.Key areas of responsibility- Maintain, design, develop vessel tracking ecosystem. You will not be alone on this project but we expect the candidate to lead development and take responsibility for important parts of the ecosystem.
- Develop forecasting data models
- Liaise with traders and research analysts to bring new insights to trading strategies
- Structure proprietary information into in-house data sets and make use of it in machine learning models
- Run python backtests to quantify impact of fundamental factors on market prices
- Organize proprietary timeseries and design visualizations and user interfaces to assist traders in trading decisions making.
- 3 - 6 years relevant working experience in data science / analytics / timeseries analysis (or equivalent working on PhD thesis)
- Previous exposure to shipping or commodities is a plus
- Proficiency in python (pandas, sklearn, xgboost, ..) and SQL.
- Architect mindset / strong appetence for building long lasting tools.
- Strong proficiency in Mathematics and Statistics. Economics is also a plus.
- mastering data science concepts, be able to design a hypothesis, perform tests/experiments and train machine learning models using state of the art ML/AI frameworks, draw conclusions and transform them into actionable recommendations to business
- Critical thinking, inclination to make improvements, propose innovative ideas and challenge the status quo
- Proactive, enthusiastic, entrepreneurship mindset with genuine interest in new technologies and financial markets
- English (Fluent)
