What you will do

We are harnessing the power of the cloud, data analytics, the IoT, and user experiences to deliver on the promise of intelligent buildings and smart cities that connect communities in ways that make people’s lives better.

The Director, Data Architecture & Governance will be responsible for the design, planning, roll-out, monitoring, and improvement of the data capabilities. The main objective of this role is to define, implement and mature Architecture and Governance for our OpenBlue platform and Digital space.

Director possesses a deep understanding of how data and technology, drive better data and improved business outcomes. They are passionate about solving problems and enabling the data to build value while adhering to standards

How you will do it

  • Own the design of the OpenBlue and Digital enterprise data model, including leading the team crafting the models, handling industry schema

  • Define the initial data governance framework inclusive of roles, responsibilities, standards, processes, and metrics

  • Build partnerships with adjacent teams and leaders within Johnson Controls and Regulatory and Government Relations teams globally to evaluate legislation or standards and the impact on our Digital portfolio

  • Show expertise for data at all levels: low-latency, relational, and unstructured data stores; analytical repositories and data lakes; data streaming (consumption/production), data in-transit, timeseries and materialized views

  • Occasional travel will be required

What we look for

Required

  • BS in Computer Science/Electrical or Computer Engineering or has demonstrated technical abilities in similar areas

  • Strong written skills and the ability to effectively communicate technical analyses and results to business management

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in data architecture, data governance and supporting capabilities such as data modelling, schema and standards, metadata management, data warehousing, dimensional modelling, data modelling for big data and data quality, among others

  • Knowledge of the methodologies involved in the architecture modelling and use of data

  • Expert level in digital uses of data and end-to-end data flow within the enterprise; able to quickly translate digital strategy into the related data flows and objectives

  • Overview of data security frameworks, data quality frameworks, data catalogues, and data governance frameworks

Preferred

  • Data strategy and management experience within the IoT, industrial, or digital space

  • Experience with relevant industry standards and ontologies including Brick, Project Haystack, Real Estate Core, ASHRAE or others
