The company is headquartered in Switzerland nearby Zurich, has a SW R&D office in Italy, and has installed its products in laboratories and pharma companies worldwide.

3Brain is currently developing, together with CSEM, new versions of its innovative 3D sensing chip and is looking to reinforce his team in this field with a full-time MEMS Process Engineer who will be integrated in the microfabrication team of CSEM SA to further develop and industrialize this new technological platform. The working place will therefore be Neuchâtel in the CSEM premises.

CSEM is a private research, technology and innovation center specializing in microtechnology, microelectronics, system engineering and renewable energy systems. It offers its customers and industry partners custom-made innovative solutions.

Your mission

As a technology all-rounder, you will be responsible for the development and industrialization of a complex process to realize 3D electrode arrays on CMOS wafers.
  • Be the driving force for the development and optimization of the process steps required to manufacture 3D electrode arrays on CMOS substrates, like for example, thin film metallization, photolithography, UV LIGA, dry etching, wet etching, electroplating, …
  • Process optimization using systematic approaches (DOE).
  • Plan and execute ramp-up activities towards production including characterization, data analysis and yield improvement activities.
  • Creation of the process documentation according to our quality standards.
  • Follow the state-of the art and development trends in the field of interest.

Your profile

You are a passionate engineer with Ms or PhD degree in Micro-technology or equivalent and have several years hands-on experience in MEMS process development. Experience in the industry is a strong asset. You are flexible and can adapt to new themes and technologies. As a customer oriented person you are motivated to interact with colleagues, sub-contractors, as well as other partners. Furthermore, you are curious, motivated, proactive, a good team-player and you think creatively. You are fluent in English, French would be an asset.

Your mission

As an intern in the Sample Handling and Sensing group, you will support all activities in the Life Science Technologies area with a focus on microfluidics, sample handling, and lab automation for in-vitro diagnostics, Organ-on-a-Chip, and regenerative medicine applications. Examples of current and past projects include OrganTrans (organoids, robotics, and microfluidics), Moore4Medical (microfluidics and biosensing), and BioCDx (diagnostics and microfluidics). Within the strategic goals of the group, you will contribute to the development of disruptive technologies. The work will be primarily engineering, but in close collaboration with biologists, chemists, and physicists (may involve travel to other CSEM sites).

We are looking for an intern to support us in:
  • Implementation, testing, and biovalidation of prototype systems, specifically with regards to design, fabrication, testing, image acquisition, and sample handling.
  • Design, fabrication / prototyping, and assembly of prototype systems
  • Performing of validation experiments for prototype systems
  • Analysis of resultant data and preparation of presentations summarizing the results

Your profile

Know-how
  • Strong background in a life science-related field (e.g. engineering, physics, biology, chemistry)
  • Wet lab experience
  • Experience with fluidics and / or cell handling systems
  • Rapid prototyping (e.g. 3D printing, micromilling, hot embossing), CAD (e.g. SolidWorks)
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong English-speaking skills required, German and / or French-speaking skills a plus
