What Will You Do

Become a part of an organization leading the way for smart, healthy, sustainable buildings. Buildings represent about 40% of global emissions, and as a UX Manager at Johnson Controls, you’ll be at the forefront of helping customers around the world pursue their net zero carbon goals through your leadership and design craft.

This role is a part of a newly forming organization that is transforming our DNA to embrace a high performance, agile, innovative culture that delivers leading digital products our customers love. As a leader within the product management organization, you’ll be responsible for fostering an environment in which the team can do their best work. How You Will Do It

Create and manage strategic roadmap for your team within a portfolio that translates into business goals, manages capacity of portfolio, and applies design vision and direction to drive business outcomes. Successful execution of this leadership role involves developing and sustaining relationships with the following:
  • Inspiring vision amongst your team
  • Key customers –Independent Reps, Wholesale Distribution, Dealers, etc.
  • Influential business and design stakeholders
  • Design Communities
Principle Duties
  • Establishes a strategic UX roadmap and vision for team based on enterprise and product priorities
  • Translates market and customer requirements to product vision and backlog
  • Engages in research and strategy formulation with product teams
  • Drives the validation of desirability and delivery of that value to our customers/users to influence product strategy and direction
  • Manage projects, capacity, budget, and deadlines for your portfolio for the best team and JCI outcomes
  • Utilize deep design knowledge and methodologies including information architecture, prototyping, research, testing, and visual design to advance and influence cross functional projects that deliver superior products and services
  • Provide subject matter expertise on design and display a deep understanding of the user with internal stakeholders and peers to influence better user outcomes
  • Proactively identify ways to showcase design throughout the organization and evangelize the design team’s capabilities and work
  • Establish success metrics across projects, products, and processes to measure progress and impact of team’s work
  • Grow and develop talent on team with effective delegation, coaching, and fostering bottom-up innovation
  • Establish, develop, and improve internal processes to help the team deliver great design and research
  • Establish governance to ensure quality and consistency of work
  • Vet tools and resources for your team and the larger design team
  • Remove barriers, institute process improvements, and proactively identify ways to make our design team more efficient
  • Lead the team from a strategic and systems thinking approach that will drive the greatest business impact and value
  • Build great relations with our product and technology partners to ensure tight UX alignment and proactive, strategic guidance to design team
  • Bring the right stakeholders together and foster the right connections to guide the team in developing, refining, and documenting the best design and research practice methodologies
  • Creatively explore problem spaces to mitigate risks to work and identify solutions
  • Participate in community outreach to find and attract great design talent
  • Amplify growth mindsets and instill confidence in the team to represent the voice of the customer and their design craft
  • Perform managerial duties including hiring, performance management, planning and evaluating design departments activities, onboarding employees, etc

Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in design, computer science, or a related field, or appropriate graduate degree highly desirable
  • 8+ years expereince in user expereince research and design
  • 3+ years in design leadership, design management, and/or design program management roles
  • Experience balancing product, development, and user-centered goals to help shape overall product strategy
  • Experience working on a product, service, or research from inception to shipment
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex interaction concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
