R&D Modeling Engineer For Sony Advanced Visual Sensing Location: Zurich, Switzerland

You will:
  • Share in our startup DNA and take part in a dynamic team focused on solving difficult problems to enable new and exciting applications
  • Capture the interaction between light and matter in fast physical models at various abstraction levels
  • You will develop deep insights into optical devices, device modeling, efficient simulator architectures, and AI sensors
  • Develop environmental models to generate datasets for AI training and system evaluation
  • Work closely with our sensor and AI experts for development of early-phase image sensors
  • Work in a multi-cultural environment that spans engineering sites from Japan, Europe, and North America across the Sony Group organization
You should have:
  • MSc or PhD in Physics, Computational Science, Electrical Engineering,… or surprise us with a background that we did not think of yet!
  • Experience in physical modeling, such as modeling of optics, electromagnetics, and semiconductor devices (preferably industrial experience)
  • Motivation to find the simplest solution for a given objective
  • The courage to put your ideas to the test without being afraid of failure
  • Ability to optimize priorities based on company-wide objectives
  • Excellent communication skills, fluency in English
You can set yourself apart if you have:
  • Knowledge of 3D simulation techniques and solvers such as finite-element method, neural surrogate, method of moments, lumped model, etc.
  • Knowledge of mathematical disciplines that are beneficial for modeling, such as linear algebra, vector calculus, differential equations, and statistics
  • Experience with modern software development methodologies and principles
  • Experience with various sensing modalities such as conventional CMOS cameras, event-based cameras, LIDAR, ToF, IMU, structured light etc.
  • Experience with Machine Learning and/or Deep Learning algorithms
Sony Advanced Visual Sensing (AVS) is a research and development center of Sony Semiconductor Solutions based in Zurich, Switzerland and a former spin-off of the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). We develop novel computer vision algorithms, vision sensors and sensing systems based on our world-leading sensing expertise, including event-based cameras, CMOS cameras and depth sensors.
