The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant/Research Associate in Single Cell Genomics to support IOB’s gene therapy efforts through the collection of single cell genomics data from the brain.

IOB is a research institute associated with the University of Basel which combines basic and clinical research. Its mission is to drive innovations in understanding vision and its diseases and develop new therapies for vision loss. IOB uses state of the art single cell genomics and epigenomics techniques to both understand vision and to test therapies aimed to restore vision. In your role as Research Assistant/Research Associate , you will bring in your expertise to support our molecular research teams across the institute.

Your position
  • Isolate and prepare single cell and single nuclei suspension from brain tissue;
  • Perform NGS library preparation on 10x Sequencing System (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, multiome RNA+ATAC-seq);
  • Prepare sequencing libraries for Illumina Sequencing Systems;
  • Ensure the quality of existing NGS protocols;
  • Interact closely with members of IOB and collaborators in industry.
Your profile
  • Master Degree or PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, genomics or a related discipline;
  • Relevant work experience in cell biology; experience with brain tissue will be highly valued;
  • Minimum of 3 years research experience in Genomics, previous experience in the single-cell field is mandatory;
  • Knowledge of single cell sequencing technologies;
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
