Mixed Reality and AI Research Scientist

The Microsoft Mixed Reality & AI Labs sit at the forefront of research and software development in the field of environment and human understanding in mixed reality. Comprising a diverse, multidisciplinary team, the Microsoft Mixed Reality & AI Lab in Zurich is focused on building the future of mixed reality using computer vision to map and understand the environment, recognize and track relevant objects, and assist users performing tasks. We guide our technological development by building human-centric experiences to ensure we design solutions that people will love to use.
The Microsoft lab in Zurich is located near ETH Zurich, the top technical school in continental Europe, enabling close collaboration in multiple areas. The city of Zurich, Switzerland, is centrally located in Europe and consistently ranks among the top cities in the world for quality of life.

We are looking for talented computer vision and machine learning research scientists: people who love to invent and build new stuff that really works and can be deployed to millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Research and Engineering - Work with an interdisciplinary team from conducting state of the art research to developing early prototypes to productization of technologies for action understanding in mixed reality. Engage with the research community through publications, workshops or the supervision of interns & PhD students.
  • Growth mindset - Must be self-motivated, strong team-players, good communicators, embrace challenges, and keen to learn.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • A PhD or similar professional experience in computer vision, computer graphics, or machine learning.
  • Strong coding, debugging, and engineering skills.
  • Hand-on experience with machine learning and 3D data.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in at least one of
  • Action recognition and segmentation
  • Video representation learning
  • Human motion analysis, skeletal action recognition
  • Human-object interaction recognition
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning
  • A strong publication record at top-tier conferences and journals (e.g CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, SIGGRAPH, NeurIPS, ICLR)
  • Expertise in at least one of the following programming languages
  • Python
  • C++ (esp. C++11 and newer)
  • GPU programming (esp. CUDA)
