Research Team Manager – Materials (80-100%)

You will supervise the development of new material solutions for the broad ABB product portfolio. The group covers multiple material classes (from polymers to metallic materials) and has deep expertise in various manufacturing and testing methods. Additional to identification and development of innovative material solutions, the team supports technology implementation in ABB factories worldwide. The goal is to ensure sustainability and technology leadership of ABB products. A strong focus is on sustainable and cost-efficient materials (while not compromising on performance) as well as on emerging manufacturing technologies. Your responsibilities

• Management of a research group with 12 employees
• Coaching of project leaders for scientific excellence and professional execution of R&D projects
• Planning and ensuring an optimal project portfolio for the team, and overseeing efficient project execution
• Recommending, developing, and improving processes and procedures to enhance local operations
• Recruiting of new employees
• Overseeing and assisting with transfer of technology and knowledge between internal partners
• Contributing to a motivating and innovative working climate
• Managing the group’s laboratory infrastructure and control of workplace safety
• Carrying out own research projects
• Close collaboration with Business Research Managers
• Maintaining and extending network to relevant ABB Divisions and Business Research Managers

Your background

• Several years of experience in industrial R&D and research project management
• Interest in new fields of research and technology
• Communication skills and interest in lively Interaction within an interdisciplinary team
• PhD in material science, chemistry, physics or engineering
• Fluency in English and willingness to learn German
