We are currently seeking for aSafety Engineer for our new site in Muttenz, Basel-Land, Switzerland. The site is located in Getec.Park Swiss in Muttenz not far from our technical development center in Münchwilen which brings a new active ingredient rapidly from pilot plan to full-scale production.

Role Purpose

As part of the local HSE Team you will be responsible for continuously improving the risk awareness of all Muttenz employees. With your safety expertise and can-do attitude, you will shape the local HSE culture and act as an internal service provider and advisor.

The safety engineer is the local risk assessor and part of the team defining appropriate control measures associated with site operational activities. The role is responsible for gathering and reporting environmental KPI.

Qualifications

Your accountabilities:
  • You lead the process risk assessments and workplace risk assessments
  • You manage and develop risk assessment strategy in accordance with legal and Syngenta requirements
  • You support the production with safety expertise on site and you provide safety related trainings (HSE prevention and protection)
  • You manage incident reporting process and support investigations, shared learnings, and internal communication
  • You support the organization for operational safety compliance with all Swiss Legislative and Syngenta Internal regulations (occupational, process, and environmental safety).
  • You implement the initiatives required to develop Syngenta HSE strategy at Muttenz
  • You support the development of environmental reporting platform for the site
  • You also support site HSE Audits and act as internal auditor
What Are We Looking For
  • A university degree in chemistry or chemical engineering (or equivalent)
  • experience in chemical manufacturing environment, in operational role (production, engineering, HSE)
  • Understanding of chemical manufacturing operations incl. standard operational safety procedures (permit to work, mods, incidents investigations…)
  • Experience with safety risk assessment and incident investigation in the Process Industries, Knowledge of the methods of risk assessment (workplace risk assessment, HAZOP)
  • sound understanding of Swiss regulatory environment and its application in the Process Industries: SUVA safety engineer or adviser is an advantage
  • Experience with interpretation of current and forthcoming safety legislation (Swiss and EU)
  • Predilection for shaping and continuously improving an HSE management system
  • Ability to use modern IT tools and support their implementation
  • You are fluent in German and English; French would be a nice to have
  • You have a structured and organized approach ensuring understanding of complex situations to assess risks and proposing appropriated control level. You can express your opinion and have a strong capability of influencing.
