Scientist in IoT / Edge Systems (80%-100%)

As a Research Scientist, you will be working on IoT and Edge solutions in the context of ABB’s next generation systems and products. We are looking for a team member with a proven research track record and the eagerness to transfer and apply world class academic research into an industrial environment. Reporting to the Research Team Manager, you will work within a highly motivated, international team of scientists at ABB Research.

Your responsibilities

• Contributing to and leading research projects in the area of hardware and software for IoT/Edge systems addressing the needs of our business
• Generating research proposals for projects that turn state-of-the-art research results into effective solutions for ABB
• Creating prototypes of developed concepts with real business impact
• Evaluating new technologies and conducting technical surveys
• Disseminating your results in scientific publications, patent applications and technical reports
• Building a network in the company and actively distributing your knowledge and expertise

Your background

• Theoretical and practical knowledge in IoT and Edge systems. Knowledge in any of the following topics is considered a plus: low-power embedded systems, data analytics, machine learning, wireless connectivity
• Experience in software engineering and good programming skills
• Eagerness to learn and willingness to start on new topics
• Proven publication track record at top scientific conferences and journals
• A collaborative, solution-focused approach, with strong written and spoken communication skills
• A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or in a related field
• Fluency in English
