The Position

At Roche Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development Organization (pRED), we believe that rapid advances in science and technology are our greatest opportunity to rethink the way

we address some of the world’s most challenging unmet health needs and have an even more profound impact on patients and society.

The newly established Roche Institute of Translational Bioengineering (ITB, http://ritb.roche.com) and the Neurosciences and Rare Disease (NRD) Discovery Translation Area (DTA) within pRED are looking for an independent and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow or scientist to join our team at the interface of basic academic and translational research in the areas of organoid technology and neurodegeneration.

The scientist will play a key role in ITB’s and pRED’s efforts to develop and apply next-generation human models with important functional features of human neural tissue to be used

for the development of precision therapies.

Your Responsibilities Are
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance a project focused on developing innovative approaches to in vitro modeling neurodegenerative disease
  • Apply bioengineering and advanced phenotyping approaches to generate and characterize human models, increase their pathophysiological relevance, and expand their translational value
  • Work closely with ITB colleagues in the areas of microtechnology, organoid engineering, organoid development and phenotyping to address complex scientific and technological challenges
  • Collaborate with external academic teams to further improve neural organoid models using cutting-edge engineering
  • Collaborate with Roche preclinical and clinical experts to drive the validation and implementation of advanced tissue models in both drug discovery and precision therapies in the clinic
  • Generate high quality results for peer-reviewed publications and present at scientific conferences

Who You Are
You are a scientist, biologist or bioengineer, with a PhD in molecular biology, stem cell biology, neuroscience, tissue bioengineering, or relevant field. You have a strong understanding of

neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration, and several years of experience in basic or translational research. You are intellectually bold and adept at applying your skills to new areas

to gain innovative and transformative insights. Your experience and inquiring mindset allow you to work independently, design, perform and interpret experiments, and apply new scientific

methods.

The position would require advanced expertise in the following areas:
  • Experience with human stem cell and neural organoid culture
  • Experience in design and execution of projects to model neurodegeneration disorders in vitro
  • Basic molecular and cell biology techniques

The Following Experiences Would Be Considered An Asset
  • Methods for phenotyping complex tissues using tissue clearing, whole-mount imaging and fluorescent microscopy
  • Sample preparation, generation, analysis and interpretation of single cell and spatial omics (transcriptomics, proteomics) data
  • Design and execution of CRISPR-Cas genetic screens
  • Basic molecular and cell biology techniques

To be considered your application needs to:

A cover letter, a CV (including a list of relevant publications) and the names of three references.
