THE ROLE

As a full and active member of the Global Fine Art team, you will be responsible for sourcing property for various Expert departments to meet targets with local and international auctions. You will manage a client portfolio as well as provide your advice for our local and international sales. You would help define the strategy and be responsible for business getting, developing strong relationships with our existing client base as well as identifying new opportunities for client development, under the supervision of the Managing Director, Switzerland.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Expertise / Sourcing

  • Actively seek consignment opportunities: business-get independently and/or with Swiss and International colleagues;
  • Negotiate consignments, coordinate deal process, and meet export and net profit targets;
  • Contribute to the overall Swiss export target, and work as part of the Global Fine Art team to increase company market share, especially at the high end of the market;
  • Provide locally based expertise, coordinating where appropriate with the Chairman Switzerland and/or global Specialists;
  • Assist in and where appropriate lead the preparation of proposals and/or valuations;
  • Where appropriate, contribute towards cataloguing and all aspects of the Swiss sale;
  • Contribute to private sales and selling exhibitions;
  • Work closely with the business development and European Client Development teams to manage and develop clients across Switzerland.

Global Team participation

    • Active participation in the European Fine Art Department;
    • Seasonal travel to London for auctions, to sell the sale and support Swiss clients in the auction process;
  • Represent the department at top level marketing, preferred and events meetings to ensure key priorities are met (e.g. Openings at galleries and museums).

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Min. 15 years’ experience in a similar client-focused and fast-paced work environment;
  • Degree holder or equivalent (Art related masters preferable);
  • Written and spoken fluency in English and French is essential, fluency in any other language is an asset;
  • Extensive knowledge, passion and commitment to the Art field (in-depth experience of art auction processes an asset);
  • Proven business acumen and developed valuation skills in Fine Art;
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong record in client relationship management and a sensitive approach to problem solving;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to an exemplary level of client service;
  • Ability to work effectively individually and in a team and to ’pitch in’ when required;
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and have a flexible approach to a wide range of tasks, with a willingness to learn from others;
  • Well organised, with a good eye for detail and the ability to prioritise tasks;
  • Flexible and receptive to change;
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, knowledge of SAP an asset).
