Monthey (VS) is the largest and most complex of Syngenta’s Crop Protection sites, producing Active Ingredients (AI) both new and established molecules. We are currently seeking a

Senior chemical engineer in digital transformation (m/f/d)

for the Active Ingredient Production (AIP) Group in Monthey (VS).

Role Purpose
  • As an experienced chemical engineer, be the digital ambassador on site of the Active Ingredient Production (AIP) department. Coach and engage with the AIP colleagues to drive and support digital transformation initiatives
  • Support global Syngenta Smart Manufacturing digital initiatives and act as a Subject Matter Expert if needed. Gain insights into global and site digital initiatives to seize the impact on the AIP department and workforce.
  • Conduct manufacturing process feasibility studies for process relocation, capacity expansion or significant process optimization
Accountabilities
  • Work with IT and Automation Engineers to co-design, build and evolve digital solutions, such as visual dashboards, to improve the transparency of operational data for multi-function use
  • Engage with wider community to support global Syngenta Smart Manufacturing initiatives and ensure they deliver value for the site. Act as subject matter expert for some of these global initiatives.
  • Actively support the continuous improvement of the manufacturing execution system (MES)
  • Support to establish a digital innovation culture in the AIP department by training and engaging colleagues to actively contribute to identify and deploy digital solutions
  • Drive mindset shift from experience to experience based and data-driven decision making
  • Engage manufacturing plant to provide technical advice and identify improvement potential to adopt new technologies and processes to improve plant automation systems, digitalization, connectivity and intelligence systems (Industry 4.0)
  • Conceptualize digitalization and automation solutions (e.g., smart process analytics) for production plants
  • Develop functional design specifications and take part in project execution as well as track important process data and KPIs with dashboards
  • Perform basic data analytics on plant data and translate insights into intuitive concepts
  • Conduct manufacturing process siting studies, evaluations of installing new production capacity using existing assets
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the processes, resources, technologies and assets of the AIP department
Requirements

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or PhD Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience in a chemical plant (operations and/or process development)
  • Good knowledge of HSE, thermal safety, process risk analysis principles
  • Experience in plant digitalization and data science, high curiosity in this area
  • Experience of management of change and culture transformation in production environments.
  • Lean six sigma experience would be a plus
  • Financial acumen: Understanding the commercial impact of process problems, delays and improvements
  • Experience in process design / simulation (AspenPlus, Hysys, etc)
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office and familiar with programming languages is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities
  • Ability to innovate by leveraging experience with digital solutions
  • Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English and French
