We are an international team of software developers, software engineers, solution architects & project managers whose mission is to build and maintain Alpiq’s IT services and applications for a dynamic energy business.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to help build, evolve and manage Alpiq’s data solutions to support a data hungry business. You will develop business requirements to ensure needs are met by our solutions, specifically in business intelligence.

You will be part of a team designing, developing, and maintaining data warehousing, analytic and reporting solutions to meet our evolving enterprise’s business needs. Designing, developing and supporting new and current ETL processes employing industry standards and best practices to enhance loading of data from and into different source/target systems will also be among your tasks.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage and support ETL processes for Alpiqs internal business intelligence services
  • Design, develop and manage a data warehouse for reporting purposes, including maintenance and support activities
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders across various teams to drive solutions that meet their needs
  • Develop and implement best practices for business intelligence reporting
  • Model, design and implement data vault and/or star schema solutions
  • Perform dimensional modelling
  • Application management
  • Technologies: Power BI, Snowflake, Wherescape, SAP Business Objects, Python
  • Drive data standardisation, simplification and scalability, lowering cost, improving quality and value of data assets
Main Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in computer science, business informatics or comparable quantitative studies preferred
  • 5 – 10 years of professional experience with high analytical competence
  • Must have advanced experience with Power BI reporting and adept in analysing and understanding business requirements (risk, finance)
  • Sound knowledge of relational databases preferably Snowflake incl. the corresponding SQL skills
  • Knowledge in Data Warehouse automation (preferably WhereScape knowledge)
  • SAP Business Objects experience or willingness to learn
  • Up-to-date knowledge and practical experience in the areas of system and data architecture, data modeling, data integration, data quality management
  • Experience with agile development methodology and understanding of ITIL methodology
  • Experience in field of energy, risk, finance or trading would be an advantage
  • Resilient and curious personality, passionate about learning new technologies
  • Works well in a team
  • Very good communication skills in English; German or French would be a plus
