General Description

The Senior Manager, Data Privacy will support the design and implementation of BeiGene’s Global Privacy Program with special focus on the Company’s U.S., European and new markets operations.

This position may be based in/commutable to BeiGene’s Switzerland (Basel), California (San Mateo or Emeryville), or Massachusetts (Cambridge) office locations. Remote work in the U.K. or other locations to be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer, this newly created position will assist the Privacy Office with the Company’s development, rollout and oversight of privacy policies, procedures, training programs and technology solutions.

In addition, this role will work with other members of BeiGene’s Legal and Compliance and IT teams on data privacy and security-related matters, including data incident responses and the design of scalable technology solutions and tools to support the continued growth of BeiGene with its existing operations in the United States, Europe, China, and in new markets and regions.

The position is ideally to be based in/commutable to BeiGene’s Switzerland (Basel), California (San Mateo or Emeryville), or Massachusetts (Cambridge) office locations. Remote work to be considered on a case-by-case basis, understanding need to visit the U.K. or U.S. office locations on a regular basis.

Essential Functions Of The Job
  • Assist the Privacy Office with the design and implementation of a cohesive global privacy policy architecture to facilitate consistent adoption and pull-through of privacy compliance principles and controls at the country, region, state and local level.
  • Support the Chief Privacy Officer with the creation and maintenance of dashboards, reports and presentations for diverse Company audiences, including the Global Privacy Steering Committee, Compliance Committee, Executive Committee, country management teams, and the Board of Directors.
  • Assist with the identification, collection, management, and report of privacy metrics necessary for the escalation and mitigation of privacy risks across BeiGene in Commercial, Medical, Clinical Development, G&A and other functional groups.
  • Develop and rollout guidance, working manuals, templates, and forms with the objective of embedding privacy controls into BeiGene`s operations.
  • Foster regular engagements with Privacy Champions and incorporating feedback and observations into existing or new policies and procedures.
  • Support the business in the conduct of privacy impact assessments and the mitigation of identified risks.
  • Manage and maintain central privacy mailboxes that receive privacy related queries and requests for project support.
  • Oversee the rollout and subsequent management of privacy processes on OneTrust, including Data Subject Rights and Privacy Impact Assessments.
  • Assist with the triage, escalation, management, and response of data privacy incidents.
  • Develop and maintain platform communications such as privacy newsletters and the privacy portions of the Legal and Compliance Intranet page.
  • Support the development and periodic review of privacy training programs for new and existing employees to ensure a thorough understanding and appreciation of the privacy laws that impact the Company’s operations and how to conduct business practices appropriately.
  • Assist Procurement, Finance, IT, and other functions with the third-party risk management program, including vendor diligence screening, vendor training, and distributor audits.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably life sciences, law, IT, data analytics or related discipline).
  • Holds a data protection and/or privacy certification (CIPP, CIPT or CIPM from the IAPP preferred).
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working full-time in privacy, in the bio-pharmaceutical industry, either directly for a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company, and/or a nationally recognized law firm or consulting practice where a significant portion of the work has been supporting clients in these industries.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with privacy and data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA and the China Cybersecurity Law).
  • Experience and expertise in project management.
  • Experience and expertise in privacy technology tools (e.g., OneTrust).
  • Excellent written / verbal communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain solid relationships / connections across the organization.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with enthusiasm and accountability.
  • “Customer First” customer service orientation - puts the customer at the center of all business activities.

Education Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably life sciences, law, IT, data analytics or related discipline).
