Job content

We are shooting for the moon and work on a novel breath collector to detect respiratory infections. We cannot do our pioneering work without highly qualified talents like you. We seek a senior plastic consumable engineering hero who loves to think outside the box and work with an inspiring bunch of “walk-the-talkers”. In 1947 the modern blood tube was invented. We work on a similar success story with our AveloCollect device to better diagnose patients, provide targeted treatment and ultimately save lives. Please get in touch with us if you are our medical consumable superstar!

Your Responsibilities

As a “bring-it-on-person” you are responsible to design, develop and establish the manufacturing of the AveloCollect breath collector. Your main tasks include:

  • We have a breath collection prototype produced with additive manufacturing. Your job is to redesign it and convert it into a user-friendly, high-quality, and high-performance injection-molded plastic consumable
  • Own and lead all aspects of the IVD plastic consumable engineering and design transfer of AveloCollect from R&D to manufacturing including design for manufacturing and design to cost
  • Identify and manage contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs)
  • Ensure product readiness across the supply chain incl. procurement, production, assembly, documentation, quality, and packaging
  • Continuous product improvement and refinement with focus on performance and cost
  • Work closely with other team members to integrate Avelo’s aerosol filter and elution technology in the consumable
  • Be Avelo’s go-to person if it comes to injection-molding and manufacturing, share your knowledge and train other team members
  • Manage projects and ensure project deliverables, budgets, quality targets and timelines are met
  • Ability to multitask and switch projects as priorities change
  • Manage, analyze, and communicate results to your team and stakeholders within the organization
  • Help building our quality management system according to ISO 13485 and establish the technical documentation for regulatory submission and CE-marking
  • Assume different roles and grow into new areas and/or leadership role as needed

Your Profile

As a “I-can-do-it-all-person” you offer the full package including:

  • PhD, MSc, BSc or significant experience in Medical Technology, Medical or Mechanical Engineering or related degree
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in medical plastic consumable engineering, injection molding, assembly, and transfer-to-manufacturing processes
  • 2+ years of relevant experience with regulated devices, ideally in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products development within ISO13485 environment
  • Experience with regulatory aspects of medical devices, ideally IVD products
  • Experience with the development and manufacturing of clinical sampling technologies or lab consumables or test cartridges is a strong plus
  • Experience with IVD verification and validation is a strong plus
  • IVD project management experience is a strong plus
  • CAD construction skills and experience with product design are a strong plus
  • Experience with ultrasonic welding and similar bonding technologies is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines such as biology, material science and product management is desirable
  • Highly proactive and self-directed with strong integrity and willingness to always question results, including your own
  • Hands-on team player with strong “can do”, analysis and problem-solving skills who likes to tackle challenges, improve own skills, and help shape Avelo’s future
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills in English and German
  • Applicants must be either Swiss citizens, EU nationals or have the legal right to live and work in Switzerland

We are looking for individuals with different backgrounds – what counts is that you want to do your best to help us in our mission to save lives. In return, we give you a creative and flexible working environment and a chance to make a difference. For more information on our values, please have a look at the About section on our website.
