Reporting to both the VP Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) and the VP Engineering & Property Services (E&PS), the Sr. Director Digital Strategy and Deployment is a key leadership position for both the E&PS and EH&S organizations, and for the Technical Operations and Supply Chain Strategy organization overall. This key leadership role will conceive, create, shape, and deliver an enterprise digital strategy and deployment plan which will impact everyone who steps into one of our 1,000 properties around the world.
  • Owner of the Digital Strategic Plan Investment: $100 million over 5 years for both EH&S and E&PS organizations of over 1,600 employees combined
  • Annual Operational Budget Accountability: $10 million (Technology expense, Comp / benefits, Consulting, Strategic Programs, etc.)
  • Direct Reports - 3 to 4; Total Staff - 6 to 8; Indirect Reports - approx. 15

Execution of these plans is paramount, and this role will be responsible for leading multiple cross functional teams to this end, including leaders from Supply Chain Digital, J&J Technology, E&PS, EH&S, and collaborating with partner organizations such as Human Resources, Finance, Global Services, and key programs such as Return To Work (RTW), J&J Flex, Signify, etc.

Global Leadership And Governance Responsibilities

This position is accountable to build strong relationships with the E&PS and EH&S Leadership Teams to develop an overall vision for E&PS / EH&S digital, per the above, and execute upon critical projects to meet the needs of both organizations by working with teams around the world - inside and outside of Technical Operations and Supply Chain Strategy (TO&SCS).

Key relationships include liaison with other areas of the R&D, Commercial, and Supply Chain organizations, from all three sectors, as well as external organizations and industry groups, to demonstrate takeaways, processes and experiences and share E&PS and EH&S learnings with others. The Sr. Director will also work closely with all functional areas across E&PS and EH&S.

Executive Engagements

Has direct and frequent executive engagement with Supply Chain, Commercial, and R&D leaders, especially their digital / technology leaders; is a member of the E&PS Global leadership team, a member of the EH&S Global Leadership team, is expected to frequently present to the VP, Technical Operations and Supply Chain Strategy and to J&J’s Chief Supply Chain officer on occasion.
  • Member of the EH&S global LT and E&PS global LT
  • Expected to be a very close partner to the Strategy and Business Partnerships leaders
  • Members of this organization serve as key contacts to the digital and strategy ecosystem at J&J
  • Serves as rotating member of other councils, as appropriate

Key Partnerships

Internal: EH&S council, Engineering council, Make Leadership Team, Digital leaders from across J&J including those from JJSC D&DS (J&J Supply Chain Digital Deployment Strategy); also serves on TO&SCS leadership team and is frequent presenter

External: Frequent J&J representative at Corenet, IFMA, IAMC and other trade organizations

Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy Shaping and Development:
  • Owner of the Digital strategy and execution management to Digitize J&J’s engineering and EH&S capabilities, how we deliver projects, the workplace experience for our 135,000 employees, our technology approach to running our 1,000 properties around the world, and platforms that keep our global employees, contractors, and visitors safe.
  • To this end, will lead the development of a multi-year, integrated digital strategy, and project plan, considering the full set of data and information needs and sources from across the organization and integrating into a cohesive, multi-phase data strategy.
  • Responsible for leading a team with a deep understanding of E&PS and EH&S strategy, on which to base the digital enabling plans.
  • To this end, will work very closely with the Strategy and Business Partnership leader for E&PS / EH&S, and establish a regular cadence of connections to bring an integrated digital strategy that enables the overall strategy for both organizations.
  • Collaborates with SC Digital teams and partner organizations such as HR, Finance, Global Services, and key programs such as RTW, JJ Flex, Signify, etc.
  • Leverages councils as needed for insights and strategy socialization: EH&S, Engineering, Experience, Make Leadership Team, Innovation Council, etc.

Digital Strategy Execution
  • Owns the cross functional delivery orchestration of the digital programs with regional, local deployment around the world.
  • Frequent report to the EH&S and E&PS LTs to this end, on delivery status, scorecards etc.
  • Leads annual development and evolution of the digital and technology E&PS/EH&S goals, long range financial plan and value case in the digital space.
  • Ensures continuous connection and alignment to other business segment digital strategies, ensuring E&PS/EH&S is supporting Johnson & Johnson’s strategic objectives.
  • Connects externally to peer companies, industry associations, and thought leaders to bring an outside-in perspective to both organizations that this role serves.

Insights and Analytics Development
  • Leads the Business insights and Analytics team, responsible for data science product visualizations that are responsive to needs, highlight business insights, engaging cross functionally and support business decision-making.
  • Leads a capability that summarizes key, cross data set insights gleaned from the digital strategy, reviews these with each LT, and translates them into actions to grow the business.
  • Owns E2E Digital Information Management within the E&PS and EH&S organization in an effective and efficient way, creating a strategic long-term vision in how the information is used to support the overall J&J businesses globally.

Systems and Community of Owners Management
  • Through a community of system owners, constantly refreshes the Digital Strategy, integrate in with the Supply Chain digital roadmap and the TO&SCS digital journey across functions to deliver simplicity, proactivity, predictiveness, and better forecasting for our customers
  • Provides recommendations to each LT about systems maturity, upgrades, replacements, and when investments are required to replace aged systems that no longer add value.
  • Leads a digital mindset and people capability advance for both organizations.

Qualifications
  • University / Bachelor’s Degree is required; preferable area of study includes - technology, EH&S, engineering, real estate, facilities, and/or business
  • 15+years’ work experience in Technology, Digital, EH&S, Real Estate, Facilities, Risk Management or Supply Chain is required
  • Multiyear experience in developing technology strategies is required
  • Experience in Supply Chain and / or Health Care industry is preferred
  • Strong background in project management, analytics, and platform development is required
  • Good verbal, written and customer service-focused communication skills is needed; ability to simplify IT-speak for non-IT decision makers is required
  • Experience in strategy development and global program ownership is required
  • Outstanding collaboration, connect, influence, and shaping skills are required
  • Must have mastery in working in a matrixed environment
  • Minimum of 10 years managing people and large global teams is required
  • Ability to travel globally and domestically 20-30% annually is required
