Reporting into the Vice President, Janssen Supply Chain Procurement, the Senior Director will be responsible for leading the API Category in support of approximately $0.4 billion in spend for Johnson & Johnson Companies. The Global Category Leader API will identify, develop, and direct the implementation of Procurement goals and strategy consistent with the business strategy and requirements. The incumbent will plan and direct the organization’s activities and deliver against targets within the balanced and operational scorecards, ensuring performance, quality, and service and compliance adherence. The API category is complex and technical in nature and requires extensive interaction with key business stakeholders (R&D, Tech Ops, etc.), critical supplier leadership (CMOs, etc.) and segment/functional leadership (CPOs, BELs, etc.). The position must shape, connect, and lead resources to deliver on key projects. In this critical role, the leader will be a member of the Janssen Supply Chain Procurement Leadership Team. In addition, the role will be required to be on a number business facing leadership teams, steering committees, and core teams.

Key Responsibilities

Development of long-term Category Strategy, with associated execution plan
  • Develop and drive the Procurement vision of transforming healthcare with innovative supplier solutions
  • Develop the vision, strategy and implementation plan for API category based on deep subject matter expertise and an understanding of industry/market dynamics that will effectively meet requirements of the business partners and deliver maximum value for J&J

Supplier Engagement & Communications
  • Interface with sr. supplier leadership (CXO’s, etc.) to assure alignment of J&J’s objectives are met, including quality, reliability, innovation, and cost
  • Leverage supplier partners for innovative inputs on materials, processes, and business models to help create competitive advantage for the business
  • Collaborate closely with Partnership & External Supply (PES) team and supplier partners (CMOs etc.), identify business requirements and partner with Business Engagement Leaders (BELs) to deliver value improvements to drive competitive solutions
  • Understand long range requirements of the business partners and engage in strategic planning and partnering to ensure alignment

Category Excellence
  • Execute category strategies to include sourcing strategy execution, negotiations, contract implementation, relationship management and performance against established targets
  • Support Procurement 3-tier model and leverage Enterprise Center of Excellence (COE) and BEL network to bring best value for the business
  • Develop and drive the Procurement vision, goals, and strategic framework in collaboration with the stakeholder community
  • Collaborate with cross sector categories to ensure leverage of best practices
  • Thought leadership in Citizenship efforts, including Supplier Diversity and Sustainability

Leadership Responsibilities
  • Conduct 5 conversations, competency model management and development as you serve as a People Manager for a group of +10FTE
  • Manage & prioritize portfolio and workload across all sectors using an agile mindset for self and the culture of your team
  • Lead team meetings and provide updates to Global Procurement Leadership
  • Escalate issues that may impact the Global Procurement organization

Qualifications
  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in one of the technical areas - Chemical Eng., Chemistry, Pharmacy, or equivalent area required. Master’s or above Degree preferred. MBA Degree preferred
  • A minimum of 15 years of work experience with 5+ years in regulated industry, such as, pharmaceuticals, biopharma, bioprocessing, or equivalent industries required
  • Strong technical knowledge of the pharmaceutical manufacturing process, API development and commercialization preferred
  • Proficiency with core Procurement skills (e.g., supplier management and performance, supply market analysis, Category Management, Procurement Excellence, etc.) preferred
  • Broad-based understanding of business operations and practices and core Procurement areas of focus (Spend Management: Category Management and Supplier Management) required
  • High level of credibility with internal customers, and with the supplier community preferred
  • Multi-country experience preferred with experience across geographies
  • Strong leadership, vison setting, communication, influencing, collaboration and talent development skills are required
  • Able to prioritize requests, and propose effective cost/customer service alternatives when necessary
  • Ability to show judgment in developing new approaches and resolving issues required
  • Customer Orientation - building and maintaining strong relationships with senior leaders required
  • Strong project and change management capabilities preferred
  • Strong ability to set strategy direction required
  • Working knowledge of compliance requirements (cGMP, GDP, etc.) required
  • Strong ability to set strategy direction required
