The Strategic Business Support (SBS) group is part of the Value Chain Management (VCM) organization of Janssen Supply Chain (JSC). It supports Business Development (BD) initiatives including licensing, acquisitions, divestment, out-licensing, and third-party manufacturing requests within Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies as well as J&J Cross Sector projects. SBS ensures that the interests and needs of JSC are appropriately evaluated, structured, negotiated, and transitioned into the routine business processes within Janssen.

Such Accountabilities Entail

Reporting to the VP Strategic Business Support, this SBS Executive is a member of the BD cross functional evaluation team and has overall responsibility for BD activty on assigned projects that take place within the group, and accountability for CMC, as well as commercial manufacturing and supply chain aspects for Janssen. This includes BD projects that are global, regional, and local in scope.
  • Leading or supporting due diligence evaluations for licensing and M&A initiatives by reviewing CMC scientific data and reports, as well as cost of goods and thus, identifying opportunities, gaps, issues, and risks.
  • Leading cross-functional CMC teams for in-depth data reviews for in-licensing and M&A opportunities.
  • Leading cross-functional CMC teams during on site due diligence of all facilities use for the manufacture of the assets considered for licensing or acquisition.
  • Negotiating the manufacturing and supply terms and authoring the respective sections in licensing agreements, asset purchase agreements, manufacturing and supply agreements, and quality agreements.
  • Presenting the outcome of due diligence to JSC Senior Management and Leadership Teams, cross functional Senior Management and various Janssen and J&J decision making groups and committees.
  • Supporting divestments, out-licensing and third-party manufacturing requests to JSC by compiling relevant information on CMC, manufacturing and supply for reverse due diligence.
  • Supporting divestments, out-licensing and third-party manufacturing requests by developing, negotiating, and authoring out-licensing agreements, asset purchase agreements, transitional manufacturing and supply agreements, transitional quality agreements, technical transfer agreements and transitional service agreements.
  • Leading post-signature project transition to the appropriate teams within DPDS and JSC.
  • Leading interdisciplinary teams for the evaluation of future assets in the pharmaceutical segment. Can lead and participate on cross segment BD teams.
  • Building strong alliances with JSC Finance, Quality, and DPDS Portfolio Management as well as strong interdependent partnerships and flawless communication with key stakeholders in JSC, DPDS, BD, BD Finance, and R&D.
  • Mentoring and providing feedback to BD members and their functional management on performance within the BD team.
  • Providing guidance to the BD members in the resolution of conflicts, both of technical and business nature.
  • Challenging the status-quo, driving innovative approaches & concepts, embedding business focus in the Team activities.
  • Building strong partnerships, communicating regularly - often with senior management - within Supply Chain and with key internal/external stakeholders (BD, R&D, Commercial, Internal and External supply and development partners,) and with External Companies to J&J. Interactions will be covering:
  • Evaluation and presentation of strategy, new product technologies, and potential acquisitions
  • Presentation of project status reports
  • Outlining of issues, risks, and their mitigations

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering or related fields; Advanced degree is preferred
  • Broad Supply Chain experience (e.g. API / DP Operations and Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain Management, External Supply, Technical Transfers and Development, R&D, New Product Development and/or Introduction, in pharmaceutical, biotech, or similar industry) is needed; R&D experience is also preferred
  • Experience in managing multiple products/projects in parallel, and with a demonstrated ability to motivate and lead team members and deliver results
  • Proven track record of success in complex and new product introductions
  • 15+ years of related work experience is preferred
  • Masters complexity with thorough understanding of business requirements
  • Customer / marketplace focus and demonstrated ability to make sound business and customer centric decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare cost benefit analyses and articulate business cases for stakeholders’ approvals
