Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for Sr. Director Strategy and Insights in our J&J Supply Chain organization. Ideally, this position is based in Bridgewater, NJ. Zug, Switzerland or our other major SC hubs in NA or Europe may be considered.

The J&J Supply Chain (JJSC) is an integrated, global supply chain that serves the needs of the 1 billion people who use J&J products each and every day around the world. We manufacture more than 26 billion product units per year, from raw component sourcing to end product distribution as efficiently and effectively as possible with high quality, compliance and service performance. Our supply chain organization makes up 45% of all J&J employees, and includes 125 internal manufacturing plants, manages 581 external manufacturers, utilizes 459 distribution centers, partners with over 3700 direct suppliers, produces over 300,000 sku’s.

Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain has a bold ambition of becoming a strategic advantage by driving growth and stakeholder value, re-imagining innovation and partnering end-to-end (internal & external). This will require bold investment in “growth capabilities”, build and deploying them across our business segments.

This Sr. Director role is key in deployment and connectivity of our JJSC strategy. This Executive will work in strong collaboration and partnership with the business segments, enterprise functions, and other stakeholders to deliver both the overall JJSC strategy, as well as related segment and functional strategies. They operate in a modus of “co-creation” and “co-ownership” for implementation with their business partners to jointly develop, activate and deliver those strategies.

This leader will be responsible for shaping, activation, and accelerated execution/ implementation of strategic initiatives across JJSC (e.g. Growth Capabilities), bringing a consultative customer centered approach to mobilizing innovative solutions for our most challenging and high-impact opportunities. This leader will be responsible for ensuring projects which drive significant impact maintain a tight focus, have appropriate visibility, and are accelerated to deliver both near and long-term milestones and business impact/outcomes for JJSC. The leader will play a significant influencing role across the segment and enterprise functions and will be responsible for advancing key strategic projects, in addition to working on multiple projects to accelerate impact of our strategic investments and our ability to serve customers in line with our strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute the Yearly SC & EF Strategic Process:
    • Lead development of an integrated JJSC strategic plan, including long-range financial planning and business planning cycles in strong collaboration with key supply chain, finance, commercial, R&D, and other stakeholders (e.g. enterprise functions).
    • Partner closely with finance on timing of communications and direction of the strategic cycle, ensuring strategic agenda is reflective in our investments.
    • Shape and evolve the engagement and collaboration with segments, functions and other business partners living into the segment driven and SI&D enabled operating model (e.g. Lead Strategy Council, connecting SC segments and EF strategies to top strategic initiatives).
    • Ensure year on year key strategic investments are reflective in JJSC Strat Plan/LRFP and create a future roadmap of projects and initiatives to help advance and achieve our strategy.
    • Chair regular connections with S&D leads within the segment and enterprise function.
  • Deeply understand business and segment strategies, priorities, and, particularly, the unmet needs of the customer, with ability to align to JJSC top strategic initiatives, potential gaps, and key enablers.
    • Enhance and drive the connection to the Commercial Strategy to improve Customer Experience.
    • Ensure insights and unmet needs from business and segment strategies are shared and understood within SI&D as part of the capability maturity / fit for purpose design.
    • Understand the needs of the customer ecosystem E2E and how it aligns to business priorities/opportunities. Maintains awareness and clarity on healthcare trends. Must be able to assess and interpret trends with the broader markets, channel dynamics, consumer behaviors and expectations, etc. and the impact to the innovation solutions.
  • Direct external insights, benchmarking, etc. to shape strategic direction.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic industry associations and thought leaders; benchmark current capability and identify opportunities for improvement to drive JJSC to be at the cutting edge.
    • Pull outside in perspective, insights, benchmarking regarding future supply chain capabilities required to execute our strategy and ambition into a customer centric resilient supply chain and translate insights into critical capabilities required to execute our strategy.
  • Inform, shape, and activate key initiatives - specifically the Growth Capability Activation
    • Identify and manage interdependencies across the Portfolio to ensure information relating to project deliverables, risks and issues are effectively communicated between stakeholders and that key performance indicators are monitored and evaluated.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s or University degree is required; Advanced scientific degree (MS) or MBA is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of supply chain experience that demonstrates an integrated, global portfolio that may include (but not exclusively) health care, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, medical devices, coupled with executive leadership of teams, processes, including multi-layer management
  • Ability to gain external insights and translate to internal J&J Supply Chain strategy & plan
  • Strong understanding of external trends and forces - social, political, economic, regulatory, technology and environmental trends affecting businesses domestically and globally
  • Proven experience in working in a highly matrixed organizations and eco-systems
  • Experience in working and leading within a global environment, connecting and building a network of leaders in different regions and countries
  • Demonstrated ability to turn vision into strategies and a successful track record of casting and gaining support for a vision and activating development
  • Proven capability of leading & implementing broad-based transformational change, as well as being able to effectively communicate & influence at the most senior levels of JJSC
  • Multi-sector company experience is preferred
  • High tolerance for ambiguity in a complex environment. Makes the complex clear and easily understood by others
  • Credibility, gravitas to influence at the senior levels of JJSC
  • Good communication, strong collaborator, with demonstrated empathy & influencing skills
  • Strategic thinking combined with outcome-oriented execution focus (blue & magenta)
  • Global Travel up to 30% is required
