Your ‘day to day’

In this role you will ensure the delivery and quality of new and improved physical methods to test materials and, finished and semi-finished goods working in collaboration with project teams and departments from R&D and Operations to define method development programs to deliver portfolio of methods required for new product development and launches.

You will define projects and priorities and lead method development and validation projects and programs. In that context, you will supervise and mentor method development scientists and contractors to ensure delivery of methods on time and to ensure the technical development of the method development team.

Furthermore, you will act a technical subject matter expert for physical method development and identifying areas of improvement in the method portfolio and developing new methods to upgrade these areas.

More specifically, you will
  • In collaboration with project teams, designers, Testing Engineering Development, Testing Labs, Center of Excellence Laboratories and external partners, define and draft method development programs and project plans ensuring timelines, required resources and deliverables are aligned with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensures methods chosen are appropriate for end use and aligned to best practice.
  • Deliver new and improved methods of the correct quality to agreed timelines.
  • As a subject matter expert in physical measurement sciences, you are expected to supervise, train and support method development scientists and contractors to ensure the quality of delivered methods.
  • Lead point of contact for Testing Labs and Centers of Excellence to advice, troubleshoot and improve methods deployed to the business.
  • Use analytical expertise to review and renew the physical methods portfolio. Identify areas of the portfolio which no longer meet business needs or best practice and develop improvement plans.
  • Contribute to cost benefit analysis of improvement plans.
Who we’re looking for
  • University Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering or equivalent skills through demonstrated experience (PhD or Master level or equivalent).
  • Seasoned experience in physical measurement with a minimum 5 years’ experience in applying physical measurement sciences in an industrial setting, ideally in the tobacco, FMCG and/or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Tobacco industry and RRP and their development, testing and characterization is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience of analytical sciences in a certified environment ISO17025 and/or GxP and in method development with a preference experience in the analysis of RRP materials and products.
  • Experience managing people and specifically physical engineers.
  • Proven project management skills in an R&D setting, ideally formal project management qualifications.
  • Ability to balance short term delivery and long term development and to deliver in a pressured and fluid environment.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills.
  • Fluent in English.
