Janssen Supply Group, LLC is part of Janssen Supply Chain, a global organization responsible for supplying medicines to markets around the world. Janssen Supply Chain (JSC) is recruiting for a Staff Packaging Engineer to be hired with a permanent contract within the Device and Packaging COE, Technical Operations group.

The Staff Packaging Engineer will be responsible for working with cross functional teams to develop new graphics and printed components for both new and existing products, while working in compliance with relevant industry standards and JSC guidelines. In addition, the Staff Packaging Engineer will collaborate with external packaging sites located in EMEA, to support Packaging engineering related activities for LCM and technical transfer projects.

Main Responsibilities
  • Partner with other Supply Chain departments both within packaging sites internal to Janssen Supply Chain (JSC), as well as Distribution Centers and External Packaging contractors managed by JSC, to provide support on different graphics and packaging needs and achieve timely resolution of operational deficiencies
  • Partner with Marketing Companies to effectively support packaging and graphic requirements. Partner with Regulatory Affairs & Global Graphics Services to incorporate on time copy and legal content to package labeling
  • Provide the technical criteria for new products, printed components, processes, Global Standard and systems which influence Senior Management and Site Management decision-making. These include requirements for packaging, distribution, shipping solution design as well as temperature control supply and qualification
  • Ensure the development and implementation of leading-edge technology for all packaging locations, internal and external, managed by JSC
  • Optimize design, program, processes and/or technical platform to meet current and future needs, having a good knowledge of graphics, printing processes, and printing components. Knowledge of packaging materials and temperature control is a plus
  • Partner with the J&J Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing Science (PDMS) organization to support/drive primary component (stability critical components) related projects
  • Participates in risk remediation/reduction and drive toward root cause and robust corrective action/preventative action to improve process reliability
  • Ensure ownership of line trial, packaging material qualifications, child resistant requirements, human factor studies and patient centric design
  • Provide packaging engineering support for LCM, Tech-Transfer and New Product Launch (including rapid and ROW launches) activities
  • Author, review & approve packaging related documentations (i.e., packaging component specifications, Packaging Bills of Materials, Packaging component drawings, Global Standards, risk/criticality assessment and procedures for bulk/finished drug products)
  • Manage packaging changes and brand extensions with JSC, J&J Affiliates, and contract manufacturers. Establish and maintain a high level of competence while implementing innovative solutions to establish world class standards at contractor facilities
  • Support with sustainability / environmentally friendly packaging initiatives
  • Perform continuous packaging related improvement and support sustaining efforts

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Pharmaceutical Technologies or Equivalent Technical discipline is required
  • A minimum of five (5) years of graphic design, related engineering or relevant experience is required
  • Proficiency in English is required (B2 level and above)
  • Understanding of cGMP, Good Documentation Practices, and Regulations is required
  • Experience with primary, secondary & tertiary packaging materials & designs (i.e., bottles, caps, vials, cartons, inserts, preformed pouches, preformed trays, roll stock materials and/or form fill seal sterile barrier packaging designs, and various printing technologies) is required
  • Knowledge of packaging distribution / transportation testing (for cold chain & non-cold chain products) is required
  • Knowledge of graphic design and printing processes are preferred
  • Validation / qualification of packaging equipment, material & processes is preferred
  • Experience in the areas of pharma, chemical, biologics, medical device, or other regulated products areas is preferred
  • Project management skills required
  • The ability to be effective in a global environment with the ability to manage and lead technical issues with Cross Functional global partners is required
  • Ability to lead and influence others in a complex matrix organization is required
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely across all levels of the company, across the supply chain, deliver and with the commercial franchises as appropriate is preferred
  • Project Management (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, Process Excellence, FPX, and Kepner-Tregoe Certifications are preferred

Location: Latina, Schaffhausen, Beerse, Allschwil

This position may require between 20% to 30% domestic and international travel, based on business needs.
