The Neuroscience and Rare Diseases Discovery and Translational Area(NRD DTA) is developing medicines for a range of serious neurological diseases, including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, autism, spinal muscular atrophy, and Huntington’s disease.

As a student in the NRD DTA you will join our research groups developing novel neuropsychological and digital biomarker tasks for use in studies with neurological populations. We are located at Roche Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland; however, work-from-home is possible in the current situation. You will be hosted and mentored by two Roche biomarker scientists who will guide you through your research and provide you with the needed work infrastructure and collaborative network.


During the internship, you will

  • interact with scientists developing novel digital biomarkers and analytics for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Among your tasks, you will be in charge of the transcription, quality control and annotation of speech data
    in Spanish You will also interact and support the work of machine learning engineers in charge of applying speech recognition algorithms on the data.

  • have the opportunity to contribute to the development and refinement of neurocognitive tasks for neurological patients.

  • Your work will entail selecting stimuli according to functional-neuroanatomic models, help designing and implementing digital assessments, working with data from neurological patients, and participating in project team meetings.

  • This internship should provide you not only with learning experiences in biomarker science, but also an understanding of how biomarker neuroscience functions in a pharma setting. Depending on your interests, you can also participate in events such as trainings and seminars.

Moreover, you are

  • An ambitious BSc or MSc student who is currently enrolled with a minimum of 2 years undergraduate training (Bachelor in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Computational Neuroscience, Biomedical engineering or equivalent fields with a strong focus on neuropsychology)

  • A (close to) nativ Spanish speaker (excellent comprehension, good written competency),

  • Proficient in English (both spoken and written)

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office programs

  • You can also bring Knowledge of speech recognition and transcription methods (it is a plus)

  • Statistical and computer programming knowledge is highly desirable

The preferred and earlieststarting date for this internship is August 1st, 2021
