The Hydrogeology research group analyses and quantifies surface water-groundwater interactions and hydrogeological systems via novel hydrological tracer methods and integrated surface-subsurface hydrological modelling. A robust conceptual and quantitative understanding of surface water-groundwater interactions is crucial for sustainable water management, for example to guarantee safe drinking water production and optimal agricultural water use. These topics are becoming more important in light of the ever increasing anthropogenic and climate-induced changes to our environment (https://duw.unibas.ch/en/research-groups/hydrogeology/).

To strengthen our group, we are inviting applications for a 50% technical staff member position.

Your position. You will support members of the group in field and tracer campaigns (assisting in the planning, the execution and the maintenance of field experiments and infrastructure), manage the research groups field and specialized IT equipment, and be responsible for the professional acquisition and storage of data.

Your profile. We are looking for a highly motivated and reliable candidate with a self- organized and solution-oriented work attitude. Applicants should be experienced in working with field and IT equipment and be able and willing to conduct fieldwork over extended periods of time. A valid driver’s license is a must. Knowledge on the application of environmental tracers is an asset, as are experiences with geographical information systems and programming skills (Python or R). Solid knowledge of German and good spoken English are required for interaction with the members of the research group.

We offer you. A diverse and interesting part-time technical staff position in a dynamic new research group within the international and interdisciplinary Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Basel, with close ties to the Department Water Resources and Drinking Water of EAWAG.

Application / Contact. We accept online applications only. Use the link below to access the online application form. Your application should include a motivation letter (max. 1 page), a CV, copies of relevant degrees, and the names and contact details of at least 3 references.
