Test Engineer (Consumer and IoT GNSS Products)

We are an international team of hardware designers, software developers, test engineers, and application engineers located in Switzerland and Finland. Together we create satellite navigation receivers for consumer, industrial and wearable markets. We develop requirements for new products together with product strategy teams and then build, test, and release GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver software and hardware. We successfully apply Scrum since several years. Our team culture is open and collaborative, everybody can count on getting help from teammates and knowledge being transferred openly.

Your role
We are regularly testing new GNSS receiver software and hardware with a wide range of automated tests which cover either specific features or the complete receiver system.
You as a test engineer will be reviewing test reports together with other engineers and decide if results are acceptable or a follow up is needed. If necessary, you will carry out a deeper analysis of errors and non-compliances. You will be responsible to document defects in our issue tracking system and discuss them with the developers.
To do that you have a wide range of existing tools available, and when needed you implement dedicated evaluation scripts with either Python or Perl yourself. To be successful in this role, you need good knowledge of GNSS receiver technology. If you do not have general GNSS/navigation technology experience already, you will acquire that knowledge on the job.
In this role you will be able to make a real difference for the quality and competitiveness of u-blox products and the satisfaction of our customers worldwide.
The role can be located in Thalwil, Switzerland or Espoo, Finland

Your Responsibilities
  • Review test results during software or hardware product release test cycles
  • Analyze defects found during testing and present them to the responsible development team
  • Use existing analysis tools and write additional analysis scripts if needed
  • Work closely with feature development team to fix issues or implement needed improvements
  • Write test reports and release notes
  • Support the creation of product documentation
  • Work with Test Lead and DevOps team to resolve test issues and contribute to test planning

Your Skills and Experience
  • BSc or MSc degree in electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent
  • Knowledge of a script language like Python or Perl or willingness to learn this quickly
  • Basic knowledge of GNSS or navigation systems in general or willingness to learn this
  • Familiar with basic electronic topics such as communication interfaces, power supplies, RF components etc.
  • Strong English communication skills in conversation and writing
  • Customer and quality focused mindset
  • Curious personality and willing to learn new things
  • Able to travel to other u-blox sites in Europe occasionally
