The opportunity:

Join our Zurich based Nuclear Energy Risks team, which acts as Swiss Re’s Centre of Excellence and is responsible for the management of the Swiss Nuclear Insurance Pool, an external legal entity for which Swiss Re acts as Management Company. You will be responsible for underwriting accounts of our worldwide book of business, primarily related to the re/insurance of nuclear power plants (Property, Engineering, Liability, and Transport).

Within the framework of your underwriting authority analyzing, pricing and underwriting of risks will fall under your remit.


Key Activities:

  • Establish and maintain a strategic dialogue and communicate proactively and timely with reinsurers, clients and brokers.
  • Agreement of final terms & conditions and management of post underwriting tasks such as those related to drafting of amendments/endorsements, project risk management and claims.
  • Act as a point of reference as regards technical issues and keep track of new technologies and market trends in the nuclear industry.
  • Participation in on-site risk inspections and operation reviews.
  • Interaction and cooperation with teammates, client managers, risk engineers, claims handlers, contract partners, underwriters, actuaries and providers of other services.
  • Contribution to the operational tasks of the Team.
  • Development and maintenance of industry know-how.
  • Sharing of experience and expertise as well as provision of technical advice on nuclear risks.
  • Observation of internal and external compliance and governance related requirements.
  • Provision of input for planning and controlling.


About you:

  • Solid re/insurance knowledge with at least 5 years underwriting experience, preferably in the Energy or Power sector.
  • Scientific degree with preference for nuclear Engineer or engineering degree in civil, chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Experience in the power generation (e.g. as a commissioning engineer) and in insurance risk engineering is a plus.
  • Pragmatic with good organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good digital literacy: experience with the use of underwriting tools, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
  • Languages: German and English essential, both written and verbal. Further languages advantageous.
