In line with the work programme delivered during the UNEP FI Annual General Meetings and approved by UNEP, and under the direct supervision of UNEP FI’s graphic designer, the consultant is expected to support the layout and creation of visual materials for all workstreams for the visually effective delivery of information to key stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a unique global partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the global financial sector.

UNEP FI works closely with over 450 financial institutions that are members of the initiative, and a range of partners and organizations to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance. Through its Working Groups, Regional activities, training programmes and research projects, UNEP FI carries out its mission to identify, promote, and realise the adoption of the best environmental and sustainability practices at all levels of financial institution operations.

UNEP FI’s sustainable finance training services are part of UNEP FI’s effort to carry out the mission to "identify, promote, and realize the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution operations”. The primary aim of these services is to raise awareness and to build capacity in sustainable finance amongst UNEP FI Signatories and other financial institutions, as well as relevant stakeholders in governments, NGOs and Academia, especially in developing countries and emerging markets.

The consultant will carry out the responsibilities as Design assistant primarily supporting on digital design and layout, which is integral to the deliverables of UNEP FI’s workstreams. The role includes design and layout of publications and other UNEP FI materials, web design, social media cards, video editing, creating graphics, and Powerpoint presentations. These services will be used to develop the private sector strategy component of the UNEP FI Work Programme.

The objective:

UNEP FI currently does not have the expertise in-house to undertake the below mentioned tasks, therefore it requires the assistance of a consultant.

Graphic design is an integral part of the quality and impact of UNEP FI’s outputs to fulfill its mission to "identify, promote, and realise the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution operations".

The consultant will provide graphic design assistance. The final result of the consultant’s work will be the successful high-quality design and layout of digital and print content.

Specific tasks and responsibilities:

The consultant will be responsible for the following:
  • Working for the Graphic Designer and wider Communications team, the Graphic Design Assistant will support in creating and updating professional visual materials that are engaging whilst adhering to brand guidelines, for key stakeholders.
  • Using technical and communications expertise, the design assistant will add value to the quality and variety of visual assets which are produced by the organisation, supporting UNEP FI to deliver quality digital and print materials.
  • Create visually engaging content for use externally that engages and promotes/delivers key messages.
  • Support branded presentations, brochures, reports and visually striking material for key campaigns and events.
  • Design/layout of reports in multiple languages and corporate documents under the supervision of the graphic designer.
  • Work closely with Communications colleagues on the creation of design materials to support their work (e.g. social media)
  • Update existing design collateral for external use.
  • Reformat presentations, ensuring they deliver key messages as robustly and succinctly as possible, whilst ensuring adherence to brand guidelines and visual impact
  • Create interactive pdfs, banners, headers and buttons to ensure stakeholders can access key messages in user-friendly and engaging ways.
  • Support the communications team with graphics to promote key messages.
  • Provide expertise and support for the digital content, web design and video editing.
  • Effective filesharing to ensure UNEP FI has access to and ownership of materials produced.

The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the Membership and Regional Coordination Manager, and report directly to the Graphic Designer, UNEP FI. The consultant should take direction from the Graphic Designer, UNEP FI while final deliverables shall also be approved by the Membership and Regional Coordination Manager. The consultant will work closely with UNEP FI’s Communications team and other members of the Secretariat as needed.
Qualifications/special skills

Skills & knowledge – Understanding and strong knowledge and experience with Adobe Creative Suite: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent software is required. Knowledge of HTML, After Effects, Premier Pro or equivalent is an advantage. Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent oral, written, visually creative and proofing communications skills. Ability to adhere to brand guidelines. Good knowledge of print media, digital media, branding and international design. Excellent planning and time management skills. Strong ability to prioritize and deliver across multiple projects while maintaining quality and attention to detail. Ability to use appropriate design/communication methods for the subject and audience is desirable.

Academic Qualifications: University degree in graphic arts, design or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ working experience in the field of graphic design – design of publications, websites, print or digital materials is required. Experience of video editing is desirable.

Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required.
