Veritas Scholar, United Nations

The Veritas Scholar will support ADF International advocacy efforts within the region to which they are assigned for a fixed term of 12 months.

Scholar will, inter alia, work with ADF International advocates and allied diplomats and organizations in advocacy matters including research and writing of position papers, presentation of ADF International matters to allies and relevant decision makers as well as persuasive documents and presentations advancing the ADF mission and as directed by direct supervisor.

Scholar will be required to draft high-quality advocacy materials, including statements, reports and other submissions, and will build relationships and alliances with legal, political, and public policy professionals, prominent public intellectuals, members of the media, strategic academics, and other prominent individuals and organizations.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Serve the international advocacy team in written, oral, and relational work and ultimately work with allies and other organizations to achieve strategic legal objectives.
  • Work closely with the different advocacy teams within ADF International.
  • Develop expertise in international human rights law and practical experience in United Nations advocacy.
  • Tasked to write and publish scholarly articles.
  • Build relationships and alliances with legal, political, and public policy professionals, prominent public intellectuals, members of the media, strategic academics, and other prominent individuals and organizations.
  • Take all necessary measures as appropriate to make ADF international allied lawyers successful.
  • Assist in the preparation of routine reports for ADF International and engage in such additional administrative functions as required by direct supervisor.

Miscellaneous:

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Participates as directed in ADF-sponsored seminars and training sessions. Network and develop relationships with allied attorneys, and/or potential allied attorneys globally.
  • Willing to develop their skills throughout the program through participation in regular skills seminars provided as part of the Veritas curriculum.

  • Have a demonstrated track record of commitment and service to Christ and his Church.
  • Be able to present well in media and perform with excellence on television, radio, and in telephone interviews.
  • Be presentable and articulate and carry himself/herself in a manner that communicates excellence and command of relevant topics.
  • Exceptional relational/people skills, and present well both orally and in writing.
  • Be a team player who works well collaboratively with other team members in various ADF International offices.
  • Be motivated and committed to achieving ADF International’s objectives. This includes development of their own skillset and openness to a steep learning curve.
  • Be goal orientated individual, able to take ownership of matters and see them through to completion.

Proficiencies Required:

  • Professional proficiency in English – knowledge of any other language is desirable.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and proven project management skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;

Ability to:

  • Work, self-motivate, and collaborate within a team
  • Prioritize and achieve strict deadline under pressure
  • Professionally handle confidential information
  • Travel internationally, including travel on short notice

Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduate of law, politics, international relations, or related disciplines. (Bachelor’s degree required; law degree preferred)
  • Knowledge of international legal systems and relevant international law.
