VP Law, Supply Chain, Real Estate, Procurement & Technology - EMEA & APAC

The Law Department is recruiting for the position of VP Law, Supply Chain, Real Estate, Procurement & Technology (SCRPT) - EMEA & APAC. The SCRPT Legal Team is a global team responsible for providing cross-sector legal support to our Enterprise Supply Chain (including the Environmental Health & Safety, Sustainability, Engineering & Property Services and Deliver groups), the Procurement organization (across all categories and including support for Supplier Contracting Services), and the Technology organization.

Our team’s mission is to deliver strategic counsel and transactional excellence to these business partners, while mitigating risk, maintaining highly effective partnerships and upholding consistency in legal practices and standards.

Major Duties & Responsibilities The responsibilities of the VP Law, SCRPT - EMEA & APAC will include:
  • Leading, developing, and coaching a large and tiered legal team comprised of attorneys and professional associates located across EMEA and in APAC, empowering them to act confidently and autonomously;
  • Fostering a culture of connectivity and collaboration within the SCRPT EMEA/APAC team, the SCRPT global team and also with the broader Law Department and Enterprise, to enable business priorities;
  • Promoting a global and Enterprise-wide mindset, helping the team to thoughtfully balance the need for global standards with local/regional requirements;
  • Ensuring team resourcing, prioritization and end-to-end support of major Enterprise initiatives such as COVID-19 vaccine development and deployment.
  • Providing advice and recommendations to senior management on complex legal matters including strategic alliances and disputes with key suppliers with potentially material impact on business activities on a regional or global scale;
  • Negotiating and/or handling escalations relating to complex supply chain and procurement related agreements, including agreements with external manufacturers, but also a wide range of unique and complex legal matters with significant impact to the business;
  • Working with the business cross-sector and cross-region to identify and manage existing and emerging risks, offering compliant but pragmatic solutions that enable advancement of business goals;
  • Leading or overseeing complex global projects, process improvement initiatives, and the development of policies, practices and procedures in a continuous effort to streamline and optimize contracting in support of increasing volumes and complexity, while always maintaining quality and accuracy and managing risk;
  • Providing oversight to the design and delivery of training to business partners, to build capabilities, improve quality and realize efficiencies;
  • Managing outside counsel, team workflow and budgets;
  • Anticipating and assessing future business needs, team capabilities and resource gaps, to ensure organizational readiness;
  • Actively engaging on the SCRPT Leadership Team, to contribute to effective coordination across the team in support of our mission and to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, talent development, performance excellence and a Credo culture within the SCRPT legal team;
  • Actively participating in the Law Department Europe Leadership Team and the Law Department Leadership Group, to drive and support special projects and assignments, regional meetings, Credo programs and talent development of LD colleagues.

Qualifications

Qualifications
  • A qualified attorney with a minimum of 15 years of relevant legal experience is required,
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience at a top international law firm or in-house corporate environment as a transactional attorney is required;
  • Comprehensive understanding of the healthcare market, including, legal, compliance and regulatory issues as well as supply chain and procurement issues is preferred;
  • Strong leadership and people management skills; ability to lead and manage cross-functional and virtual teams in an international context; a passion to lead and develop a team of legal professionals;
  • Proven track record to shape complex global programs and orchestrate their implementation in a matrix organization is required;
  • Must have strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills including ability to lead through influence and to challenge the status quo;
  • Proven track record of identifying, quantifying, and mitigating risk in a balanced manner, so as to meet business objectives and ethical, legal and compliance standards;
  • Proven ability to provide outstanding legal services to, and interact with, a range of senior executives;
  • Sound judgment and strong drafting, negotiation, analytical skills, problem solving, and legal risk assessment and business consultative skills are required;
  • An ability to support multiple complex transactions and projects simultaneously is required;
  • Positive attitude, high emotional intelligence and the ability to work independently and effectively in a highly matrixed and sometimes ambiguous corporate environment is required;
  • Self-starter with a strong drive for results and a strong sense of ownership, but also good self-awareness and a willingness to take direction;
  • Ability to manage conflicts in an open and constructive manner.

This position can be located at any J&J site in Switzerland, Belgium or Ireland and will include up to 20% regional/international travel.
