Enabling global flight, with passion.In order to reinforce the team in Basel we are currently recruiting for aWorkshop Technician - UpholsteryThe Upholstery Shop creates that timeless yet satisfying look of true elegance with soft leathers and stylish fabrics that make aircraft interior feel as comfortable as home. Our Technicians are qualified for a refined modern look of machined stitching or the old-world feel of external hand leather embroidery. Our Upholstery Shop works on Ceiling Panels to Sidewalls and from Seats to Divans with the objective to ensure level of quality is met in every stitch.Description/Tasks
  • Under moderate supervision manufactures and installs upholstery, cover panels, and make simple patterns for aircraft interiors using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications.
  • Prepares, cuts, applies, sews, fits soft materials (Foam, Fabrics, Ultraleather, Ultrasuede, Leather) as instructed by his/her supervision or management on: Walls Decors, Ceiling, Side Walls, Inner window panels, Divan boxes, Inner Armrest, Inner Cabinets, hatch panels and side panels.
  • Works actively and in good intelligence within the Upholstery Team.
  • Performs technical upholstery functions within design, customer, regulation rules, and JA specifications. Specific installation and trim tasks are to be completed in compliance with work order instructions and specifications.
  • Performs basic manufacturing in accordance with appropriate documentation (drawings).
  • Prepares panels, inner furniture (Cleans, Sands, applies surface filler if needed) for future application of soft material.
  • Prepares, cuts soft materials (Foam, Fabrics, Ultraleather, Ultrasued, Leather), using basic 2D and 3D design/engineering drawings, notes, Instructions, and process specifications. Prepares them to be ready for application.
  • Installation of produced covers on for aircraft components.
  • Performs minor repairs under supervision.
  • Covers various accessories for cabinets.
  • Works according to Jet Aviation procedures, technical instructions, and aviation regulations.
  • Performs minor repairs or modifications on released furniture.
  • Achieves targets set by his/her supervision or management.
  • Assures professional standards are maintained.
  • Uses various types of stationary and handheld power tools to cut, bond and sew.
  • Operates individual tools and maintains them in a safe and proper manner.
  • Reports any defects to supervision.
  • Capability to learn new techniques and works with new material related to aircraft interiors.
  • Works precisely in accordance with requirements.
  • Maintains traceability of all components, products, parts used or manufactured in accordance with JBSL process.
  • Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) and in accordance with JA policy.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area (5S) and adheres to all safety and environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Research approved documents in JPMS IT platform.
  • Can work or perform minor repairs in A/C under supervision.
  • Responsible for his/her own work quality and completion in a timely manner.
  • Supports EH&S, 5S monthly Audits and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Supports continuous improvement actions.
Qualification/Experience
  • Knowledge in reading and understanding 2D basic manufacturing drawings.
  • Knowledge of upholstery sewing processes and products.
  • A basic understanding of material specifications and design drawings is needed to ensure completed product meets design and requirements.
  • Experience using commercial sewing machines, sergers and/or various hand tools used in upholstery and carpet trades
  • Ability to use measuring tools and perform basic math computations.
  • Knowhow in handling aerospace materials and uses appropriate tools.
  • Experience in aviation industry is an advantage.
  • Upholstery apprenticeship with appropriate educational qualifications.
  • Or Basic Upholstery diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal drive and self-motivated
  • Highly flexible.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to work and stay calm under pressure.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft applications.
  • Good English required. French and / or German an advantage
