E4tech, a consultancy supporting the global transition to sustainable energy and resources since 1997, is now part of the global ERM Group. We work with companies, governments and investors to guide strategy, policy and investment decisions locally and globally. Our strong track record in providing strategic business and policy advice is backed up by deep technical knowledge. E4tech’s clients call on us for strategy development and business planning, market and competitor analysis, due diligence support, policy analysis and development.

As the climate change agenda and global interest in the energy transition and a more renewable and circular economy escalate, we are seeing an unprecedented increase in requests for help from organisations trying to understand how to play their part.

E4tech operates from offices in London, UK and Lausanne, Switzerland and we foster a flexible, inclusive and agile working environment, using technology to minimise our travel and to improve the working experience of our teams.

The acquisition of E4tech underpins ERM’s strong growth in Low Carbon Economy Transition services. ERM is the largest pure play sustainability consultancy, serving the world’s leading organisations with a team of over 5,800 and a network of 160 offices in 40 countries. E4tech and the wider ERM Group are already working very closely together.

The role

Sustainability is fundamental to everything we do, and our clients are increasingly interested in understanding life cycle environmental impacts at a detailed level, in particular greenhouse gases, natural resource extraction, land use change and water management. LCA (Life-Cycle Assessment) and sustainability cut across our other core areas of Bioenergy & Biochemicals; Fuel Cells & Hydrogen; Low Carbon Transport; Systems Transition Enablers; and Energy Innovation & Policy. We are looking to reinforce our Sustainability & Resources (S&R) Sector team with a senior consultant who has LCA and sustainability skills and experience. The senior consultant will support sustainability-related activities across our core areas and help to grow our service portfolio into new strategic areas.

Tasks and activities will primarily include
  • Participating in and managing projects with a strong focus on LCA and GHG assessments applied to the energy, transport and/or chemicals sector. This includes using LCA software (e.g. Simapro, GaBi, open LCA) or GHG assessment tools, as well as developing bespoke LCA/GHG assessment tools for our clients (primarily via Excel).
  • Participating in and managing other assignments related to sustainability applied to conventional or advanced fuels, vehicle supply chains or bio-based and recycled chemicals.
  • Participating in or leading proposal writing.
  • Communicating with clients on project and business development matters.
  • Identifying business leads and prospects.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of E4tech and ERM strategies, including thought leadership on approaches to address sustainability issues.
  • Contributing to internal and external communications activities, including participation in conferences.
We offer a collegiate working culture, learning and training opportunities, a competitive salary, and a diverse and interesting environment at the cutting edge of sustainable energy and sustainability. Salary and grade will be based upon experience. E4tech and Element Energy’s main offices are in London and Cambridge (UK), Lille (France) and Lausanne (Switzerland). It may also be possible to join other European offices of the wider ERM Group. The choice of employer (E4tech, Element Energy, ERM) will be based upon location and expertise, but in practice you will work very closely across these organisations.
