About the role


Are you a P&C actuary looking for an excellent opportunity to further develop your career within an international business environment? Are you passionate about contributing to the success of a highly motivated, engaged and multi-cultural team of insurance specialists?


This position is embedded in the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions team based in Zurich, which is part of the Swiss Re Group Risk Management.


The main focus of this role is on reserving including the development of new methods, economic valuation and financial reporting. Furthermore, the position supports the business strategy by collaborating in various actuarial projects such as profitability studies and contributes to the actuarial process development including the implementation of a new reserving and finance platform.

The main responsibilities are:


  • Quarterly estimation of P&C insurance portfolio reserves (local statutory, US GAAP, IFRS) including development of stochastic methods

  • Estimation of the corresponding pay-out patterns serving as one of the input parameters for EVM and solvency calculations

  • Close cooperation with major internal partners (Claims, Underwriting, Pricing, Finance/Accounting)

  • Preparation of internal and external (statutory) financial reportings and presentations

  • Detailed ad-hoc portfolio reviews and analyses as required

  • Support of implementing a new actuarial reserving platform, reporting and operational improvements, including collaboration in the implementation of a new finance system

  • Coordination with Swiss Re actuarial teams in different regions for aligning responsibilities such as tracking of deliverables as well as process analysis, simplification and automation


Key factors to a successful fulfillment of these responsibilities are close interactions with the main internal partners as well as observations of external factors such as market and regulatory changes followed by adequate measures.


About the team


You will be part of the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Zurich based actuarial team. The team is responsible for determining the technical reserves at adequate levels meeting all local statutory and US GAAP requirements focusing on the regions Europe and Middle East as well as Asia. In addition, the team is supporting Swiss Re Group in all actuarial risk management aspects with respect to Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.


About you


The most relevant criteria for this position are the following:


  • At least 3 years of experience in P&C (re-)insurance reserving and/or pricing

  • Good understanding of US GAAP and IFRS financial principles and reserving methods for P&C (re-)insurance business

  • Experience in using actuarial and statistical software (e.g. SAS, R)

  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal English communication skills, additional language skills (e.g. Spanish) is considered a plus

  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute across multiple work efforts at a time and independently

  • Integrative personality with the ability to successfully work together with different personal styles and cultures

  • Proactive attitude and working-style
