The post is located in the Division of Administration, Financial Resources Management Service (FRMS), Medical Insurance Section. The incumbent reports to the Associate Benefits Officer of the Medical Insurance Section.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Associate Benefits Officer of the United Nations Staff Mutual Insurance Society against Sickness and Accident (UNSMIS), the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:

  • Receives insured members and informs them of the conditions of affiliation, UNSMIS’ rules and regulations, reimbursable benefits and status of claims;
  • Registers the insured person and her/his family members in UNSMIS’ IT system and checks data loaded from ERP systems of client organizations;
  • Informs insured members of their rights during special leave without pay and calculates the payable premium, also for cases of contract termination;
  • Carries out regular checks of the affiliation data file;
  • Registers the end of insurance cover for persons leaving the plan or leaving the Organization and updates the record in UNSMIS’ IT system;
  • Communicates with insured members and responsible departments of client organizations on affiliation issues;
  • Handles retirement cases including after service health insurance, as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

At least three (3) years of experience in administration or related field is required.

Experience in the UN Common System is desirable.

Experience in client services is desirable.

Experience in international group health insurance is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and French is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

The duration of the appointment will be up to 31 December 2022 with possibility of extension.

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application. Staff members who were granted a fixed-term, continuing or permanent appointment as a result of having passed a predecessor test recognized by the Office of Human Resources Management, and who have continuously held such appointments, are not required to take the new test.
