Eaton is a power management company actively engaged in the transition towards a to a low-carbon energy future across the world. We have a particular focus on enabling the Energy Transition in Buildings (ETiB) with our diverse technology portfolio of renewable energy integration, energy storage, EnergyAware UPSes, microgrids and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The ETiB Sales Application Engineer works as a bridge between large customers (Retail chains, hotel groups, ...), sales and engineering teams. They use customer input and sales information to design, re-design, develop, test and implement complex hardware and software applications. They also provide technical support and expertise to customers, testing applications, responding to customer feedback, installations, maintenance and occasionally performing expert presentations and demonstrations.


The role reaches across many departments internally, working with the engineering team, sales, customer service, as well as manufacturing and is to create system designs optimised for answering high-end applications that will increase ETiB-related sales.

Main duties will include designing hardware/software applications for specific customer needs, tracking customer trends, collecting feedback for Eaton’s engineering teams and training internal stakeholders on the technical specifications of applications. The successful candidate demonstrates extensive experience in software and electrical application engineering, as well as knowledge of a sales environment.

What you’ll do:


  • In order to provide application support that satisfies customers, the ETiB Sales Application Engineer performs many different tasks. Among their core responsibilities is the design of specific customer solutions, programs and applications. They must be able to perform customer analysis to create applications that respond to customer needs and provide innovative solutions to common problems. They also write and execute integrated testing scenarios, working with the customer to optimize their offer and ensuring it stays up to date, continuing to satisfy customer needs.
  • From application start-up through the warranty period, the Sales Application Engineer will provide customers with ongoing technical support. This support includes responding to customer issues, providing software updates for bugfixes, performing installs for customers and working with the customer service team. In order to design and re-design effective applications, successful candidate acquires and analyzes customer needs and problems, making recommendations to the engineering team to satisfy those needs and develop solutions. They also generate ideas to engineering for new offerings that innovate and fill gaps in the current market and Eaton’s portfolio.
  • She/he performs analyses on hardware & software applications and services, reviews internal & external advanced technical documentation for projects, proposes solutions and provides technical advice to key functions within Eaton organization and to customers. They also ensure that product offerings and functionalities are aligned with consumer trends, provide technical training sessions both internally and to customers, support daily technical enquiries and work collaboratively with international ETiB engineering teams to deliver technical solutions.
  • They maintain a close relation with the internal sales team to ensure a good understanding of the client needs in a timely manner and support from a technical point of view various initiatives developed within the team as per Eaton’s strategy.

Qualifications:


Educational level required

  • A Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar.

Years and area of experience required

  • 5+ Years of experience in application engineering in a sales environment, involving electrical power electronics and software.

Skills:


Technical skills

  • Advanced knowledge of software application development, installation, and maintenance, preferably in the realm of Energy Transition
  • Exceptional ability to drive application innovation by analyzing consumer and competitor trends.
  • Ability to evaluate client feedback and improve front end application functionality.
  • Advanced ability to document processes, run diagnostic tests, and repair errors.
  • Proficiency in providing clients with technical product and services support.


Soft skills

  • Customer orientation (understand the customer buying journey), hands-on problem solving, action and solution oriented
  • English and German required, Swiss German is an advantage
