Position Summary

The Associate Director, Global Cell Therapy Trade Operations belongs to the Global Cell Therapy Logistics & Trade Operations organization within Cell Therapy Supply Chain. The role is primarily responsible for the build, management, and development of complex and novel trade operations for BMS Cell Therapy (CT) products and materials within and across North America, Europe, and APAC. The role leads a team of trade operations professionals based out of different locations worldwide.

The role drives trade operations policies in close collaboration with Global Customs & Trade Compliance team. It develops robust procedures, processes, and systems across different geographies and scopes. It is accountable for compliant and timely execution of activities, such as imports, exports, foreign trade zone (FTZ) transactions, and trade invoice issuance. Trade operations span the entire value chain of CT from raw material all the way to patient starting material, manufacturing, distribution, and patient treatment in both clinical trials and commercial settings.

Key partners for the role are the logistics teams worldwide, Global Customs & Trade Compliance, plus various CT Operations and CT Franchise functions. The role provides leadership and guidance to the Global CT Trade Operations team and develops the team and the individuals within the team. The role reports to the Director, Global CT Logistics & Trade Operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and develop the global trade operations program and drive projects to further strengthen compliance
  • Craft and fine-tune a global trade operations strategy that results in a clear roadmap and plan of action
  • Lead a global team of trade operations professionals and ensure an effective work environment for the team
  • Accountable for correct and timely cross-border transactions and foreign trade zone transactions
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of trade operations’ people processes and system workflows
  • Responsible for reporting of trade operations matters to internal stakeholders and external authorities
  • Collaboration with authorities on day-to-day topics in close partnership with Customs & Trade Compliance
  • Responsible for frequent reviews of imports, exports, trade invoices, FTZ transactions
  • Ensure compliance with applicable trade laws and regulations in various countries worldwide
  • Partner with Tax & Treasury for compliant execution and management of tax-related matters
  • Contribute to the development of new supply chain maps, in regard to financial and physical flows
Qualifications & Experience
  • Master’s degree in foreign trade, supply chain, international business, logistics management or equivalent
  • Minimum seven years of experience within a global trade operations / compliance environment required
  • Experience with complex and highly regulated supply chain, tax, and logistics models required
  • Experience with cell & gene therapy, biotech, or pharma industry preferred
  • Motivated to lead people with or without authority in a global matrix organization
  • Skilled in planning and organizing, conflict management, innovation management, and resource allocation
  • Highly self-motivated individual, with demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a fast-changing environment and in serving as change agent
